Artisan Boatworks, Inc. specializes in the new construction, restoration, storage, and maintenance of classic wooden boats. The Service Manager is responsible for ensuring client expectations are met by overseeing employees and subcontractors within the Service Department of the boatyard.
Hours and Pay: 40 hrs./week, Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30 pm. Pay is based on experience and qualifications. Overtime will be required when necessary – particularly in the spring and fall.
Reports to: Owner/President
Reports From: Paint foreman, carpentry foreman, yard crew, mechanics, riggers, and subcontractors.
Works With: Office manager
Responsibilities:
- Implement schedule of hauling, launching, rigging, deliveries, and work to be performed
- Perform fall inspections, create estimates, and work orders
- Manage job assignments and materials procurement to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with work order and to acceptable standards of quality and efficiency
- Maintain the physical orderliness and cleanliness of the yard, buildings, and work areas
- Represent Artisan Boatworks in relating with customers, employees, and the public
- Understand, implement and maintain DEP and OSHA compliance requirements
- Follow industry publications and continually seek opportunities to expand knowledge
- Maintain files with all pertinent information on boats: paint colors, serial numbers, etc.
- Communicate regularly with clients so to keep them informed of progress, budget, etc.
- Review timesheets daily and invoices for accuracy and completeness
- Perform final inspections prior to delivery to insure completeness and quality
- Facilitate safety training and department meetings as necessary
- Participate in employee reviews and job interviews and make recommendations
Education, Experience, and Key Competencies:
- Thorough knowledge of boats, boat systems, rigging, and finishing
- Must be an experienced boat handler, both sail and power
- Basic computer skills such as word processing, email, and spreadsheets
- Must be able to produce professional written correspondence
- Must have experience in sales and high-level customer service
- Must be personable, professional, and communicate well
- Must be extremely organized, efficient, and work well independently

- Accurate estimates are produced, and projects come in on time and on or under budget without excessive overtime or stress
- The yard, storage buildings, and paint bays remain clean and orderly at all times and are a source of pride for all
