Position Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for the assembly and inspection of a wide range of complex electrical control and PLC panels and enclosures that are integrated into the company’s products. This includes mainly panel layout, panel wiring, installing panels into enclosures, enclosure wiring, and mounting enclosures onto the company’s electrohydraulic systems. In addition, the position would be responsible for inspection and quality control, shipping & receiving, and other important production duties as needed.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret panel assembly drawings and electrical schematics.
- Lay out and wire electrical and PLC components on complex control panels with 100% accuracy.
- Install finished panels into electrical enclosures, and install wiring to integrate these enclosures into the company’s products.
- Perform in-process inspections on panels and enclosures.
- Apply a critical approach to the assembly process: identify non-conformances of drawings, panels and enclosures, and work constructively with Engineering and Production colleagues to correct them.
- Work with colleagues to perform internal testing on control enclosures and complete systems.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow the company’s health and safety guidelines, including wearing the required personal protective equipment.
Additional Duties And Responsibilities:
- Perform inspection of purchased parts (dimensional measurements, thread go/no go, etc.) and work with colleagues to perform other inspection and quality control measures.
- Perform shipping of the company’s finished products to a wide range of domestic U.S. and international destinations, and perform receiving of purchased parts for the company’s inventory.
- Perform mechanical and hydraulic assembly of the company’s products, commensurate with experience and skill level, as needed.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Post high school coursework is preferred.
- At least 5 years of electrical assembly experience.
- Use of a wide range of hand tools and some motorized and power tools.
- Aptitude for and experience working with electrical components.
- Must have good written and oral communication skills.
- Be detail-oriented and able to manage complex tasks efficiently.
- Ability to learn a large body of knowledge, processes and procedures related to the company’s operations.
- Must have experience with and be comfortable with using computers.
- Be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Be able to focus on detailed work for extended periods.
- Consistently report to work on time on the company’s production schedule (6 am start).
- Ability to lift at least 40 lbs
Preferred Specific Skills And Proficiencies:
- Possess basic electrical knowledge.
- Determine wire and cable lengths to produce aesthetic finished panels.
- Soldering.
- Making and working with Amphenol, D-sub and other connectors.
- Terminating wires with or without ferrules; installing ferrules.
- Printing wire and cable labels on computer software (Wago) and operate a Brother label maker.
- Setting up and drilling/tapping holes for mounting DIN rail and direct mount.
- Drilling/tapping for wire duct.
- Running conduit (measuring, setting conduit path, cutting, installing glands).
- Potting (applying putty or epoxy to) conduit fitting to ensure sealed area rated connections.
- Operate motorized machine to measure, cut, and strip wire.
- Using electrical meters (Fluke meters etc.) to check voltage or current.
- Checking continuity or lack of continuity, for example with toggle switches, push buttons etc.
- Point-to-point testing.
- Familiarity with Plex (enterprise resource planning (ERP) software) to manage assembly jobs, manage shipping & receiving processes, and guide the picking of parts from inventory for assembly staging.
- Familiarity with mechanical and/or hydraulic assembly processes.
