About Us:
Nubian Directions II, Inc. is a non-profit located in the city of Poughkeepsie dedicated to providing technology training, work readiness skills training, and educational support services for youth and adults that would improve workforce skills to foster sustainable community development.
The Accounting Assistant (P/T) will support the Finance Department with audit preparation activities, payroll entries, bank reconciliations, grant documentation, and financial record organization. The position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
Summary
- Enter student and staff payroll transactions into QuickBooks.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations for multiple accounts.
- Prepare and organize bank statements and supporting schedules.
- Maintain Accounts Receivable, Grants Receivable, and Accounts Payable documentation.
- Gather loan statements, insurance policies, and other financial records.
- Compile grant requisitions and payment documentation for various programs.
- Reconcile grant expenses and receipts.
- Organize electronic and physical files to support the annual audit.
- Assist with other accounting and administrative tasks as assigned.
EVALUATION: Conducted by the Finance Director/Executive Director or designee after 45 days and ongoing as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel required.
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and bank reconciliations.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
- Prior nonprofit accounting or audit support experience preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Position involves sitting for extended periods while working at a computer terminal. Positions in this job family typically work in an office setting but may be assigned more physical duties such as transporting office supplies and equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- QuickBooks
- Contemporary office practices, procedures and techniques;
- Spelling, vocabulary, math and grammar skills appropriate to the level of the position. Skills in:
- Operating a computer and various software packages;
Ability to:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships;
- Maintain a dependable attendance record;
PROGRAM HOURS: Hours are generally between 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
DATES: 2-3 months beginning in July 2026
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Part-Time, Temporary
Pay: $30.00 per hour
