Our client is looking for a Staff Commissioning Engineer to join their growing team supporting aviation, federal, and other highly technical facilities across the United States. This is an excellent opportunity to work on diverse projects while building your expertise across mechanical, electrical, and integrated building systems.
What you'll be doing
- Lead and support commissioning and retro-commissioning activities on complex facilities
- Develop commissioning plans, test procedures, checklists, and documentation
- Witness equipment startup, perform functional testing, and verify system performance
- Review design documents, submittals, O&M manuals, and startup reports
- Coordinate with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and operations teams throughout project delivery
- Identify deficiencies and collaborate on practical solutions to ensure successful project turnover
- Support energy-related initiatives and continuous commissioning programmes
- Assist with training facility operations personnel on commissioned systems
- Travel to project sites as required to support commissioning activities
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of commissioning, startup, testing, or related experience within commercial or mission-critical facilities
- Experience working with one or more of the following:
- HVAC systems
- Electrical systems
- Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS)
- Digital controls
- Plumbing
- Life safety systems
- Security or communications infrastructure
- Building enclosure systems
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams and clients
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred, although equivalent industry experience will be considered
Highly desirable experience
- Commissioning certifications, LEED accreditation, or energy management credentials
- Building automation controls and test & balance
- NETA electrical testing
- Central utility plants, laboratories, healthcare, airports, or federal facilities
- ASHRAE energy audits and energy savings analysis
- Experience using commissioning instrumentation such as flow meters, temperature loggers, and electrical meters
