Position Summary
The Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting the daily operations ensuring exceptional guest experiences, operational excellence, team development, financial accountability, and adherence to company standards. This role serves as a key leader within the restaurant, overseeing front-of-house and coordinating with back-of-house operations while utilizing Toast POS and related management tools to optimize performance.
The Assistant Manager is expected to act as a representative of the restaurant's culture, values, and hospitality standards while maintaining confidentiality regarding operational, financial, employee, and business information.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Management
- Oversee day-to-day restaurant operations during assigned shifts.
- Ensure smooth execution of service standards and guest experience initiatives.
- Monitor dining room flow, staffing levels, and guest satisfaction.
- Resolve guest concerns professionally and promptly.
- Conduct opening, mid-shift, and closing management procedures.
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and maintenance standards are consistently met.
- Enforce company policies, health regulations, and food safety standards.
Toast POS Administration & Technology ManagementToast POS Management
- Maintain proficiency in all Toast POS functions.
- Create and manage employee permissions and user access levels.
- Update menu items, pricing, modifiers, and promotions.
- Monitor daily sales reports and labor metrics.
- Audit voids, discounts, refunds, and comps.
- Analyze sales performance using Toast reporting tools.
- Manage gift cards, loyalty programs, and online ordering systems.
Toast Payroll & Labor Tools
- Review employee punches and timecards.
- Approve payroll-related records and labor adjustments.
- Monitor labor percentages and staffing costs.
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations.
Toast Scheduling
- Build and publish weekly schedules.
- Forecast labor needs based on sales projections.
- Manage shift swaps and employee availability.
- Ensure proper coverage during peak business periods.
- Control overtime and labor expenses.
Toast Team Management
- Maintain employee records.
- Track training completion and certifications.
- Monitor performance and attendance.
- Facilitate communication through Toast team tools when applicable.
Inventory & Cost ControlInventory Management
- Conduct regular inventory counts.
- Monitor inventory levels and usage patterns.
- Investigate variances and discrepancies.
- Maintain inventory records and reporting.
- Ensure proper product rotation and storage procedures.
Purchasing & Receiving
- Assist with vendor relationships and ordering processes.
- Verify deliveries for quality, accuracy, and pricing.
- Ensure invoices match purchase orders.
- Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or over-ordering.
Cost Control
- Monitor food, beverage, and supply costs.
- Reduce waste through proper controls and procedures.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
- Support profitability goals through cost management initiatives.
Employee Leadership & TrainingTeam Development
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new employees.
- Conduct orientation and training sessions.
- Support ongoing coaching and performance development.
- Reinforce service standards and hospitality expectations.
- Mentor team members for growth opportunities.
Training Responsibilities
- Train employees on:
- Toast POS operations
- Service standards
- Food and beverage knowledge
- Guest recovery procedures
- Safety and sanitation protocols
- Opening and closing procedures
- Cash handling procedures
- Inventory procedures
- Maintain training documentation and progress records.
- Identify areas requiring additional coaching.
Financial Responsibilities
- Assist in achieving sales and profitability goals.
- Review daily sales reports and operational metrics.
- Monitor labor and controllable expenses.
- Perform cash handling and cash reconciliation procedures.
- Assist with weekly and monthly operational reporting.
- Protect company assets and financial resources.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with:
- Local, state, and federal labor laws
- Health department regulations
- Food safety standards
- Alcohol service regulations
- Company policies and procedures
- Maintain incident logs and required documentation.
- Address safety concerns immediately.
- Support loss prevention initiatives.
Guest Experience
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional hospitality.
- Build relationships with guests and community members.
- Address guest concerns and service recovery situations.
- Monitor online reviews and guest feedback when assigned.
- Promote repeat business through service excellence.
Administrative Duties
- Complete management logs and shift reports.
- Maintain confidential employee and operational records.
- Prepare operational reports as requested.
- Participate in management meetings.
- Support implementation of company initiatives and special projects.
Confidentiality Requirements
Due to access to sensitive business information, the Assistant Manager must maintain strict confidentiality regarding:

QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 2 years restaurant supervisory or management experience.
- Experience with Toast POS or similar restaurant management systems.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proficiency with scheduling and labor management.
- Knowledge of inventory control and cost management.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Full-service restaurant experience.
- Mediterranean or upscale casual dining experience.
- Experience managing payroll and labor reporting.
- Food Safety Certification.
- Alcohol Service Certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and carry supplies as needed.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
