Position Summary
The Full-Time K–12 Art Teacher / Elementary & Middle School Special Education Resource Room
Teacher provides engaging art instruction for students in grades K–12 while also delivering
individualized and small-group special education services for students in grades K–8. This unique
position combines creativity and student support, allowing the teacher to inspire artistic expression
while helping students achieve academic and personal success. The teacher collaborates with
classroom teachers, families, and support staff to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Art Teacher Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate art lessons for students in grades
K–12.
- Teach a variety of art techniques, media, and art history concepts.
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners across all grade levels.
- Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Display student artwork and support school art shows and other special events.
- Collaborate with staff and communicate with families as needed.
Special Education Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction to meet students’ unique learning needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Assess student progress and adjust instruction to help students meet their goals.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide accommodations, modifications,
and instructional support.
- Participate in IEP meetings and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
- Maintain accurate student records and required documentation.
- Collaborate with related service providers, including speech, occupational therapy, physical
therapy, and school psychology staff.
- Support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth using positive
intervention strategies.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
General Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required district meetings.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education.
Qualifications
- Willingness to obtain an endorsement in Art Education and/or Special Education or a valid
Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements in Art Education and Special
Education.
- Knowledge of effective instructional practices for students of varying ages and abilities.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learning needs.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Passion for helping students grow both academically and creatively.
- Proficiency with educational technology and student data systems.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position following the school district calendar. The schedule includes teaching
K–12 art classes and providing elementary/middle school special education resource room
services throughout the school day. Salary and benefits are provided in accordance with the
negotiated collective bargaining agreement and district policies.
