City of Ingram Police Department – Ingram, Texas
The City of Ingram Police Department is currently seeking a motivated Code Enforcement/Patrol Officer to join our growing team.
Located in the Texas Hill Country, the Ingram Police Department is expanding operations with a goal of providing 24-hour law enforcement coverage while continuing to strengthen community relationships through professional, proactive policing.
Position Summary
This full-time position offers a unique opportunity for a Texas-licensed peace officer who enjoys traditional patrol work, community engagement, and problem-solving.
The selected officer will perform general patrol duties while taking a leading role in the City’s code compliance efforts. The officer will work directly with residents, business owners, and City staff to resolve concerns, improve neighborhoods, protect public health and safety, and preserve the quality of life in Ingram.
As a member of a growing department, the officer will have the opportunity to make a visible impact, build strong community relationships, and help shape the department’s expanding operations. The position provides a balanced combination of patrol and code enforcement responsibilities, including promoting voluntary compliance, maintaining patrol coverage, and responding to priority calls for service.
Patrol and General Police Duties
- Respond to calls for service, emergencies, and priority incidents.
- Conduct proactive patrol, traffic enforcement, preliminary investigations, and crime-prevention activities.
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Make arrests, issue citations and warnings, and complete clear and accurate reports.
- Collect and preserve evidence in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Testify in Municipal, County, District, and other courts as required.
- Participate in community-policing initiatives, public outreach, and special events.
- Assist other officers, City departments, and public-safety agencies as needed.
- Perform additional law enforcement duties assigned by the Chief of Police.
Code Enforcement Duties
- Investigate complaints and inspect properties for potential violations of City ordinances.
- Enforce ordinances related to nuisances, property maintenance, zoning, animal control, health, safety, and other municipal regulations.
- Educate residents and business owners regarding applicable requirements and corrective actions.
- Work cooperatively with property owners to obtain timely voluntary compliance whenever possible.
- Issue notices, warnings, citations, and other enforcement documents when necessary.
- Document violations, inspections, communications, and corrective actions.
- Maintain complete, organized, and accurate code enforcement case records.
- Coordinate code enforcement matters with City Administration, Municipal Court, and other departments.
- Prepare and present code enforcement cases and testify at hearings or court proceedings when required.
- Conduct follow-up inspections to verify compliance.
Minimum QualificationsRequired
- Current Texas Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports.
- Ability to communicate professionally and diplomatically with residents, business owners, coworkers, and members of the public.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict and resolve concerns fairly and respectfully.
- Sound judgment and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure.
- Ability to operate a patrol vehicle, firearm, and standard law enforcement equipment safely and effectively.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, including the Texas Penal Code and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
- Ability to learn, interpret, and apply the City of Ingram Code of Ordinances fairly and consistently.
- Ability to meet all TCOLE licensing and appointment standards, including applicable background, criminal-history, and moral-character requirements.
- Ability to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation and all required pre-employment screenings, which may include a polygraph or CVSA examination, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and physical or medical examination.
- Willingness to obtain an applicable code enforcement credential within 12 months of employment.
- Must meet the minimum age and eligibility requirements established by TCOLE.
Preferred
- Prior law enforcement experience.
- Previous code enforcement, municipal government, zoning, inspection, or property-compliance experience.
- Code Enforcement Officer certification or registration through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation or another recognized organization.
- College coursework in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work is performed in office, vehicle, residential, commercial, and outdoor environments.
- The officer may work in extreme temperatures, inclement weather, low-light conditions, and potentially hazardous environments.
- The position requires the ability to walk, stand, sit, climb, bend, kneel, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Duties may require running, restraining individuals, using defensive tactics, and applying force when legally justified.
- The officer may be exposed to confrontational situations, animals, debris, unsanitary properties, hazardous materials, and other unpleasant or dangerous conditions.
- The position is subject to shift work, callback, overtime, weekend assignments, holiday assignments, and after-hours emergency response.
