Position Overview: Promotes and restores patients' health for all HKB Plastic Surgery patients by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and other team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, their families and/or caregivers; supervising and assisting other team members through the entire peri-operative experience.
Essential Job Functions
· Identifies individual patient care requirements by establishing a personal rapport with patients and their family or caregiver in a position to understand post-surgical care requirements care requirements.
· Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families or caregivers.
· Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient, their family and/or caregivers to understand their post-op condition, medications, and discharge instructions; answering any questions or concerns the patient or care giver may have.
· Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
· Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
· Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, calling for assistance from health care team members when needed.
· Protects patients and fellow employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, practicing safe medication administration and storage procedures, and adhering to controlled substance regulations.
· Documents patient care services by charting in patients EMR.
· Maintains continuity among nursing team members by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
· Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications: participating in educational activities/in services provided by HKB, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
· Maintains a cooperative relationship among the health care team by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, sharing ideas or information, and helping other staff members when able.
· Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records including the EMR.
· Direct and supervise less skilled nursing/health care personnel.
· Orient/precept new employees when needed.
· Leads by example to demonstrate expectations from other team members.
· Adhere to safety standards and precautions.
Pre-op Nurse:
· Assess patients prior to surgery and assist in alleviating questions concerns from the patient and/or their caregiver.
· Confirming surgical case, obtaining surgical consents, updating H&P with MD
· Assess NPO status.
· Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
· Perform pregnancy test or blood glucose (on diabetic patients) and document results in EMR.
· Complete and document all pre op information in EMR.
· Assist surgeon with Pre-op exam and surgical marking if needed.
· Restock gowns, socks, pt. shorts and any supplies used during pre-op phase. Orient/precept new employees when needed.
· Orient/precept new employees when needed.
Circulator:
· Assist CRNA with positioning and securing patient onto OR table.
· Assist CRNA during critical induction phase and as needed during surgical procedure.
· Provide medications as needed to surgeon or scrub tech during surgical procedure.
· Maintain awareness of patient status during procedure by communicating with CRNA/Anesthesiologist intraoperatively
· Documents efficiently in the EMR surgical record.
· Assume duties within or out of the sterile field as needed.
· Assists in transfer of patient to PACU post operatively.
· Provide clear, concise report to receiving nurse in PACU.
· Assist PACU RN as needed.
PACU RN:
· Assist Circulator and CRNA in patient transfer to PACU.
· Evaluate patient in postoperative phases, monitoring vital signs every 15 minutes, assessing for discharge criteria as well as any deviation from expected outcomes.
· Report symptoms and changes in patients' conditions in PACU to Surgeon and/or CRNA.
· Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and condition.
· Update patient’s family/caregiver on patient condition.
· Provide discharge instructions to both patient and their caregivers.
· Document patient information and complete PACU portion of the EMR.
· Discharge patient to home with family or caregiver when patient meets discharge criteria.
· Check code cart/AED every surgery day.
Overnight RN:
· Provide direct patient care throughout the evening until relieved or patient is discharged the following morning.
· Patient care includes but is not limited to monitoring patient’s vitals, bandage changes, administering medication, helping patient to the restroom, helping patient ambulate, providing patient with
food/drink service according to their dietary requirements, communicating with patients family if necessary, keeping the patient calm and comfortable, etc.
· Collaborating with the medical team on post-operative patient care and facilitating timely specialized interventions.
· Follow standing orders set forth by the admitting physician.
· Document patient information and complete OVERNIGHT OBSERVATION portion of the EMR.
· Provide discharge instructions to both patient and their caregivers.
Nurse Manager-OR
· Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition and appropriateness for ambulatory surgery.
· Make assignments for staffing based on acuity and experience.
· Precept/orient new personnel
· Direct and supervise less skilled nursing/health care personnel.
· Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
· Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
· Maintains and updates surgeon preference cards for each procedure.
· Assist staffing in all phases Pre-op. Intra-op and PACU as needed.
· Provides and shares information, education and learning opportunities with all staff members.
· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, seminars, reviewing professional publications and maintaining required credentialing BLS and ACLS.
Physical Requirements
· Regularly required to use hands to control or feel objects, grasp, move or assemble objects.
· The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
· The employee is frequently required to stand; sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, squat, or crawl.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
· Ability to talk or hear; read, write, understand, and carry out directions.
· Will serve in patient care including patient movement or lifting. Standing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and ability to frequently lift up to 20lbs, and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
Pay: $35.35 - $42.35 per hour
