We are partnering with a confidential community behavioral health organization to identify a Psychiatric Services Medical Director for a high-impact, part-time leadership opportunity serving children, adults, and families across the Westland, Livonia, and Inkster, Michigan area.

About the Role
The Psychiatric Services Medical Director will provide psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and medical oversight for behavioral health services. This is a part-time 1099 independent contractor role supporting approximately 20–30 hours per week, requiring a flexible schedule and reliable onsite availability at least twice per week. Telehealth may be used based on client needs and agency contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, treatment recommendations, and clinical documentation.
- Prescribe and monitor medications, including ordering and reviewing lab work as needed.
- Deliver in-person and telehealth psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Provide clinical oversight, consultation, and coordination across psychiatric services.
- Support behavior treatment committees, clinical protocols, compliance efforts, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with behavioral health leadership, psychiatric providers, nurse practitioners, residents, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
What We’re Looking For
- M.D. or D.O. with an active Michigan medical license.
- Board certification in child psychiatry and ability to prescribe medication.
- At least 5 years of experience treating both child and adult populations.
- Experience supporting clients with substance abuse, substance use disorders, dual diagnoses, and mild to severe behavioral health needs.
- Strong psychiatric evaluation, medication management, documentation, and clinical leadership skills.
- Reliable onsite availability is required; candidates within approximately 25–30 miles of Westland, Michigan, or those already open to relocating to Southeast Michigan, are preferred.
- Experience with tele-health platforms, electronic medical records, and multidisciplinary care coordination.
- Malpractice insurance coverage appropriate for independent contractor work.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a clinically strong, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and nonbiased psychiatrist who is comfortable balancing direct care with leadership responsibilities. Candidates with nonprofit behavioral health, outpatient psychiatry, community mental health, Wayne County or Detroit-area experience, familiarity with the populations served in Wayne County, and prior supervision of psychiatric clinicians or advanced practice providers will be especially well aligned.
