Shipyard Welder – Structural Welder
Job Type: Full-Time / Contract
Schedule: 40 hours per week, with overtime available
Pay: $18-$40hr (Depending on Experience)

Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Shipyard Welders to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong structural welding experience and the ability to weld metal components according to blueprints, work orders, specifications, and supervisor instructions.
The welder will work closely with fitters, welding structural components that have already been assembled and tack-welded into position. Work may include welding in flat, vertical, and overhead positions, as well as working at elevated heights and in confined or enclosed spaces.
Qualified candidates should be comfortable working in a demanding shipyard environment and safely operating welding equipment, grinders, chipping tools, and other related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Weld structural metal components according to blueprints, work orders, and supervisor instructions.
- Set up welding equipment and obtain the appropriate tools and materials for each assignment.
- Select and install the proper electrodes or welding wire for the job.
- Connect welding cables and equipment and set amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse according to specifications.
- Perform welding in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Weld components that have been fitted and tack-welded by structural fitters.
- Prepare and clean metal surfaces prior to welding.
- Inspect completed welds for quality and proper appearance.
- Remove excess weld material, slag, and splatter using grinders, scaling guns, pneumatic chippers, and hand tools.
- Safely operate welding equipment, grinders, chipping hammers, arc gougers, and related tools.
- Work safely at elevated heights and in confined or enclosed spaces.
- Work through restricted openings that may range from approximately 18 to 24 inches.
- Wear and properly use required PPE, including respirators and fall-protection equipment when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all shipyard safety procedures and supervisor instructions.
- Perform other welding-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Previous shipyard or structural welding experience required.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, work orders, and welding instructions.
- Experience welding structural steel components.
- Ability to weld in multiple positions, including flat, vertical, and overhead.
- Knowledge of welding equipment and proper machine setup.
- Ability to use grinders, chipping hammers, scaling guns, and other welding-related tools.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined or restricted spaces.
- Strong hand control and fine motor skills.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime when required.
Physical Requirements
This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk frequently throughout the workday.
- Bend, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stoop, climb, reach, push, and pull.
- Work for extended periods in awkward positions.
- Work at elevated heights.
- Enter and work through confined spaces and openings approximately 18–24 inches wide.
- Frequently handle materials and tools weighing 0–29 pounds.
- Occasionally lift, carry, or pull objects requiring approximately 30–40 pounds of force.
- Carry welding equipment, including a welding box that may weigh approximately 50 pounds when fully loaded.
- Carry welding lines that may weigh up to approximately 45 pounds when coiled.
- Move equipment and materials between multiple work areas during a shift.
- Work in areas that may require the use of a respirator.

- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must have reliable transportation
- Pre-employment drug screen required
- Pre-employment background check required
- Must complete a Non-DOT physical and physical agility test
- Must follow all shipyard safety requirements and procedures
