Junge Construction is a second-generation, family-owned custom home builder headquartered in Columbus, NC. We build legacy homes, houses meant to be passed down to great-grandchildren, and we build lifelong relationships with the people who live in them.
Greg Junge founded this company on a mission to bring professionalism to the building industry, and that mission shapes everything from how we run a jobsite to how we talk to a homeowner. The role
We're looking for an experienced carpenter who can run work, not just do work. You'll be trusted with the parts of a build where precision shows: framing that has to be dead-on because the finish work depends on it, trim and millwork that a homeowner will run their hand across for the next fifty years, and the field problem-solving that comes with custom plans and mountain sites.
This is a hands-on position with leadership expectations. You'll work directly with our project managers and superintendents, and you'll often be the most experienced set of hands on site.
What you'll be doing
- Rough framing — walls, floor systems, roof framing, stairs — from plans, with attention to layout accuracy and squareness
- Interior and exterior finish carpentry: trim, casing, crown, built-ins, doors, hardware, cabinetry installation, exterior siding and soffit details
- Reading and working from architectural plans and details; catching discrepancies before they become change orders
- Setting layout and establishing benchmarks for the rest of the crew to work from
- Guiding and mentoring less-experienced carpenters and laborers on site
- Coordinating your work around subcontractors, and communicating clearly with the project manager about what you need and when
- Logging your time and daily progress accurately in JobTread (our project management system — we'll train you)
- Keeping a clean, organized, safe jobsite — including on days when clients or prospective clients are walking through
- Maintaining company tools and equipment
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of carpentry experience, with meaningful time on custom residential or high-end renovation work
- Strong in both rough and finish carpentry
- Able to read plans and work independently from them
- Comfortable with the full range of carpentry tools, including track saws, miter saws, routers, and layout tools
- Precise. Tolerances on our work are tighter than production building, and the finish carpentry has to hold up to close inspection
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license; able to get to jobsites across Polk, Henderson, and Rutherford counties and Upstate SC
- Able to lift 75 lbs, work on ladders and scaffolding, and handle the physical realities of mountain jobsites and weather
Nice to have
- ICF (insulated concrete form) experience
- Experience with timber framing, exposed beam work, or custom stair building
- Cabinet or millwork shop background
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Experience running a small crew
Compensation & benefits
- $25–$30 per hour, based on demonstrated skill and experience
