Position Summary
The Christian Mission seeks a dedicated and compassionate Program Coordinator / Peer Support Specialist to lead and expand its Peer-Led Substance Misuse Support Program. This role combines program management with direct peer support services to individuals and families affected by substance use disorders.
Grounded in a faith-based, service-oriented mission, this position promotes recovery, restoration, and hope by integrating peer support, community collaboration, and holistic care. The Peer Support Specialist will draw on lived experience to foster a culture in which each individual’s voice, dignity, and preferences are respected and incorporated into recovery and wellness planning.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Management
- Lead and coordinate the Substance Misuse Support Program
- Assist with annual budget development and ensure compliance with program obligations
- Manage treatment scholarships, mental health scholarships, and transportation assistance
- Assess community needs, identify service gaps, and recommend program improvements
- Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, best practices, and community resources
- Track program activities, client engagement, and services in Salesforce ● Build and maintain partnerships with service providers, schools, faith communities, and agencies
- Represent TCM at community meetings, boards, public events, and outreach initiatives
- Coordinate awareness and education efforts related to substance misuse, harm reduction, Narcan training, stigma reduction, recovery support, and vaping prevention
Peer Support Specialist Responsibilities
- Maintain Peer Support Specialist Certification
- Provide compassionate, nonjudgmental peer support aligned with individualized recovery goals and treatment plans
- Assist clients with goal setting, problem-solving, decision-making, and system navigation
- Connect clients and families to resources, advocate for their needs, and encourage follow-through with services
- Accompany clients to appointments as needed and help reduce barriers to care
- Monitor client progress and educate clients and families on empowerment, independent living, and available resources
- Document case notes, services, referrals, and scholarships in Salesforce
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of The Christian Mission’s goals and services
- Participate in The Christian Mission’s outreach programs and services to the community
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with individuals affected by substance use challenges
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Certified Peer Support Specialist
- Minimum 1 year recovery from substance misuse
- Completion of at least 10 hours of job-specific training within the first 90 days of employment
- Valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance
- Ability to pass a background check
