Qualifications
-
Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field required.

Valid Michigan School Counselor credential preferred.

Candidates who do not currently hold a valid Michigan School Counselor credential may be considered, provided they are willing to enroll in an approved school counseling program during the fall of 2026. The selected candidate must obtain the coursework and endorsement requirements necessary for Michigan school counselor certification within two years of hire.

Experience working with middle school students preferred.

Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community agencies.

Knowledge of graduation requirements, post-secondary planning, career readiness, and social-emotional supports.

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information appropriately.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Primary Responsibilities
-
Provide academic, career, and social-emotional counseling services to students.

Assist students with course selection, scheduling, graduation planning, and post-secondary opportunities.

Support students in developing educational and career goals.

Coordinate and participate in student intervention meetings, Section 504 meetings, and other support services as needed.

Monitor student progress, attendance, and graduation requirements.

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to support student success.

Provide crisis intervention and referrals to community resources when appropriate.

Maintain accurate student records and counseling documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.

Support building initiatives related to student achievement, attendance, behavior, and school climate.

Participate in professional development and district/building meetings as assigned.
