JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Field Technicians / Cable Installers with a passion for structured cabling, audiovisual, security, and technology deployment. This is a Level 3 Lead Technician position requiring 5+ years of hands-on experience in structured cabling, low voltage, AV, security, telecommunications, or a related construction/technology field. This is a full-time position with the potential for CWA union benefits. Our technicians work on commercial technology projects throughout the New York metropolitan area. Responsibilities may include structured cabling, fiber optics, AV systems, security and access control, CCTV, wireless infrastructure, network equipment, and other low-voltage technology systems.

RESPONSIBILITES:
Work will include, but not be limited to:
Structured Cabling & Low Voltage
- Install and terminate low-voltage cabling systems supporting Data, Security, AV, Wireless, and other technology systems.
- Install Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6A, fiber optic, coaxial, control, speaker, and other low-voltage cabling.
- Perform cable pulling, routing, dressing, labeling, terminating, testing, and certification.
- Install cable tray, ladder rack, J-hooks, conduit, and other structured cabling pathways.
- Install and terminate copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Perform fiber optic splicing and termination where qualified.
- Install and organize telecommunications rooms, equipment rooms, and technology spaces.
- Install equipment racks, cabinets, patch panels, cable management, and related infrastructure.
- Read and interpret floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, technology drawings, cable schedules,device locations, and installation details.
AV Installation
- Install commercial audio-visual systems and equipment.
- Install and terminate AV cabling, including HDMI, DisplayPort, USB, control, speaker, microphone, CAT6/CAT6A, fiber, and other AV-related cabling.
- Install displays, monitors, projectors, projection screens, speakers, microphones, cameras, soundbars, video conferencing equipment, and related AV devices.
- Install AV equipment racks, wall-mounted equipment, equipment enclosures, and cable management systems.
- Install conference room, presentation, digital signage, video conferencing, and distributed AV systems.
- Assist with installation of AV control systems, processors, touch panels, control interfaces, and related equipment.
- Follow AV drawings, elevations, schematics, equipment schedules, and signal-flow documentation.
- Assist with AV equipment staging, installation, connection, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Perform basic AV signal-path troubleshooting and identify cabling, connectivity, configuration, and equipment issues.
- Assist Project Managers and Lead Technicians with AV commissioning, system testing, punch-list completion, and client turnover.
- Maintain proper cable labeling, dressing, rack organization, and equipment installation standards.
- Coordinate AV installation activities with electricians, IT personnel, general contractors, furniture vendors, and other trades.
Security, Wireless & Technology Systems
- Install Security, Access Control, CCTV, intercom, and related technology equipment.
- Install wireless access points and associated infrastructure.
- Install network and technology equipment.
- Perform rack-and-stack activities and deployment of LAN/WAN and desktop equipment.
- Install head-end equipment and endpoint devices.
- Assist with equipment startup, testing, troubleshooting, and system turnover.
- Coordinate installation activities with IT, security, AV, electrical, and other technology trades.
Testing & Troubleshooting
- Operate and maintain appropriate test equipment.
- Utilize Fluke DSX2 Versiv Cable Analyzer or equivalent equipment for copper cable certification.
- Perform fiber optic testing using appropriate test equipment.
- Test and troubleshoot copper, fiber, AV, security, wireless, and other technology systems.
- Identify installation deficiencies, resolve field issues where possible, and communicate significant issues to the Project Manager.
- Assist with system commissioning and final testing.
- Correct punch-list items and complete required documentation.
Field Operations
- Accept deliveries of materials and equipment and properly stage them on site.
- Maintain and track tools, equipment, materials, and jobsite inventory.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Properly package, transport, stage, and deliver equipment to customer sites.
- Complete assigned work within the project schedule.
- Coordinate daily activities with Project Managers, customers, general contractors, technicians, and other trades.
- Submit accurate End of Day reports summarizing daily progress, completed work, manpower, materials, and outstanding issues.
- Maintain accurate installation records and documentation.
- Manage and assist with local and national installations as assigned.
- Most work will be throughout the NYC metropolitan area.
Safety & Required Certifications
Safety is a fundamental responsibility of every employee working in the field.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable OSHA, New York State, NYC Department of Buildings, customer, and project-specific safety requirements.
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification is required for applicable projects and strongly preferred for all field technicians.
- A valid NYC DOB 40-Hour SST Worker Card is required for work on NYC construction sites where SST requirements apply. NYC DOB requires workers on covered sites to demonstrate a minimum of 40 hours of prescribed safety training.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification is strongly preferred.
- Maintain all required SST training and renewals in accordance with current NYC DOB requirements.
- Maintain required training in areas applicable to the work, including:
o 4-Hour Fall Prevention
o 2-Hour Pre-Task Meeting
o 2-Hour Site Safety Plan
o 2-Hour Toolbox Talks
o 2-Hour Mental Health Awareness
o 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User/Refresher, where applicable
o Other DOB-approved SST courses required by the project or position
NYC's SST program currently includes a 2-hour Mental Health Awareness course as part of the prescribed training requirements.
- Additional certifications such as aerial lift/scissor lift, forklift, confined space, fall protection, or other equipment-specific training are preferred where applicable.
- Follow all site-specific safety orientations, toolbox talks, pre-task meetings, PPE requirements, and job hazard assessments.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, damaged equipment, and other safety concerns to management.
- Maintain all required safety documentation and credentials
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in structured cabling, low voltage, AV, security, telecommunications, or a related construction/technology field.
- Commercial experience installing Category 6/6A, fiber optic, coaxial, and other low-voltage cabling.
- Hands-on experience with commercial AV installation.
- Familiarity with conference rooms, video conferencing systems, digital signage, displays, speakers, microphones, cameras, and AV equipment racks.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, floor plans, technology drawings, AV drawings, elevations, and schematics.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, cable testing equipment, and other field installation equipment safely.
- Strong understanding of cable routing, labeling, termination, dressing, testing, and documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot installation issues and work through problems independently.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, customers, general contractors, technicians, and other trades.
- Ability to communicate effectively through email and daily field reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification.
- NYC DOB 40-Hour SST Worker Card.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.

- Fiber optic termination, splicing, and testing experience.
- Commercial AV installation experience.

- Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, and mentor installers and technicians in the field.
Level 3 – Lead Technician
Level 3 Lead Technicians are expected to:
- Lead day-to-day field installation activities.
- Direct and coordinate installation technicians.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, cable schedules, and installation requirements.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, general contractors, customers, and other trades.
- Verify installation quality and workmanship.
- Troubleshoot complex cabling, AV, security, wireless, and technology issues.
- Assist with AV system testing, commissioning, and turnover.
- Manage daily manpower and installation priorities.
- Track materials, equipment, and field requirements.
- Identify schedule risks and communicate issues to the Project Manager.
- Conduct or assist with daily toolbox talks and safety requirements.
- Complete accurate End of Day reports and field documentation.
- Train and mentor junior technicians.
- Serve as the primary field representative for the company when assigned.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Must be able to work on active commercial construction sites.
- Must be able to routinely stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work from elevated positions.
- Must be able to lift and carry typical low-voltage and AV equipment and materials.
- Must be comfortable working in equipment rooms, ceilings, raised-floor environments, construction areas, and other jobsite conditions.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout the NYC metropolitan area, including New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, and surrounding areas.
- Occasional regional or national travel may be required.
