Job Description
Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA, a leader among the nation’s independent associate degree colleges, has an immediate opening for an Academic Coach.
POSITION TITLE: Academic Coach
HOURS: This full-time position is for approximately 40 hours a week. The hours are set by the Senior Coach and the Student Support Services Director and will include evening work and occasional weekend hours.
Position Summary:
The Academic Coach is a team member in the Harcum College Student Support Services project who reports directly to the SSS Senior Coach/Coordinator of SSC. Harcum College’s Student Support Services (HCSSS) project is designed to support the success of vulnerable students recognized as low-income and/or first-generation and/or disabled.
The Academic Coach will work directly with students to develop self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may impede academic success. The coach will work with students to promote traits needed for academic success including time management, organizational skills, study and test-taking skills, as well as self-motivation and self-regulation.
Duties/Responsibilities

Provide coaching services to support retention and success of SSS students including but not limited to:

Academic and career goal planning

Provide psychosocial support when applicable

Financial literacy
-
Student referrals to appropriate departments when necessary (ie: financial aid, career & transfer, tutoring, disability services, etc.)
- Communication, organization, and time management skills

Student academic response plans
-
Outreach for awareness of midterms, FAFSA, and other important academic dates

Navigation of Harcum Hatch, PowerCampus, Google Suite, Canvas, Starfish, Zoom, and other technology.

Accessing other social services and resources (food, housing, transportation, etc)

Assist Senior Coach in the facilitation of educational and cultural workshops and SSS-sponsored events.

Represent the department at campus events including but not limited to New Student Orientation, Open House, Faculty Senate, Program Director meetings, evening and weekend events, and classroom visits.
- Provide data and assessment on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis

Academic Coaches report to the Senior Coach/SSC Coordinator for training, skills, and delivery. Report to HCSSS Project Director for scheduling.
Qualifications/Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or related field (Master’s preferred)

1-3 years’ experience in a related field

Microsoft Office, Google Suite

Canvas or other LMS (preferred)

Starfish for Academic Success or other student success platform (preferred)
- Zoom or other online videoconference tool (preferred)
- Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills
