Position Overview:
Location: Durham, NC
Schedule: Full-time, Hybrid (Minimum 3 days per week in the office)
Note: The hiring manager is open to both Engineering Technologists and Engineers. Candidates with an Engineering degree are encouraged to apply. Prior electric utility experience is required.
Position Summary
We are seeking an Engineering Technologist or Engineer to join the Area Operations Support Team. This position combines customer interaction, engineering design, and project management to support new and existing electric service requests. The ideal candidate will have experience in electric utility distribution, strong customer communication skills, and the ability to manage projects from design through construction completion.
Responsibilities
- Review new and existing customer work orders daily within the Maximo Work Management System.
- Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, and text regarding electric service requests.
- Meet with residential and commercial customers on-site to gather field information and determine project requirements.
- Design new electric service installations, including primary and secondary distribution equipment, in accordance with company standards.
- Prepare design sketches and construction packages using DesignLite.
- Develop customer cost estimates when applicable.
- Coordinate projects through construction and resolve design or construction issues until service is energized and meters are installed.
- Ensure all work complies with company engineering standards and safety requirements.
- Participate in storm restoration efforts as a Damage Assessor/Scout when needed, including overtime opportunities during major storm events.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Electric utility experience is required.
- Experience with electric distribution systems.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and preparing distribution designs.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Maximo Work Management System.
- Experience using DesignLite or similar electric distribution design software.
- Experience designing primary and secondary electric distribution systems.
- Project management experience.
- Knowledge of utility construction practices and electric service standards.

Pay: $35.00 - $41.09 per hour
