Position Summary
As an Automotive Emissions Laboratory Technician, you'll play an important role in preparing, testing, diagnosing, and maintaining a variety of production and prototype vehicles. Working alongside experienced technicians and engineers, you'll perform emissions testing on chassis dynamometers, troubleshoot vehicle issues, and support laboratory operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced automotive technician who enjoys technical problem-solving and wants to expand their knowledge in vehicle emissions testing and engineering.
Schedule
- Part-time: 24-32 hours per week
- Day shift- Flexible hours
- Work schedule will be established with your manager based on business needs.
- Occasional overtime may be available depending on project requirements.
What You'll Do
- Prepare vehicles for emissions and engineering testing
- Install and secure vehicles on chassis dynamometers
- Conduct standardized emissions tests following EPA, CARB, customer, and company procedures
- Perform vehicle inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and minor repairs
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
- Install specialized test equipment and instrumentation
- Collect accurate test data and document results
- Perform routine calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Support laboratory improvement projects and equipment maintenance
- Prepare vehicles for ride and drive evaluations
- Maintain confidentiality of customer vehicles, testing programs, and proprietary information
- Follow all safety procedures while maintaining a clean, organized work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, and enjoys solving technical problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of automotive technician or related mechanical experience
- Strong understanding of automotive mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience with vehicle diagnostics
- Familiarity with scan tools and automotive testing equipment
- Emissions testing or dynamometer experience is highly desirable, but not required
- Comfortable learning new equipment, software, and testing procedures
- Strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Education & Experience
One of the following is preferred:
- Automotive technology certificate from a trade school or community college
- ASE certifications
- Equivalent combination of automotive education and hands-on experience
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work around vehicles for extended periods
- Frequently use hand tools and diagnostic equipment
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Safely operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles
- Work safely around moving equipment and machinery
- Perform test driving as required
- Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
