Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Trauma, Addiction & Behavioral Health Clinician to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide trauma-informed, recovery oriented behavioral health services to youth and adults ages 10 and older experiencing mental health conditions, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, chronic health conditions, interpersonal violence, adverse childhood experiences, incarceration and reentry challenges, and other behavioral health concerns
The clinician serves as a member of The Free Clinics' integrated care team and collaborates with medical providers, psychiatric providers, pharmacists, Certified Peer Support Specialists, Community Health Workers, care coordinators, and community partners to provide comprehensive, whole-person care.
Services may be delivered through individual counseling, group therapy, telehealth, integrated care visits, community-based services, and outreach initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and behavioral health evaluations.
- Complete mental health, substance use, trauma, ACEs, and social determinant of health screenings.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments, violence risk assessments, crisis evaluations, and safety planning.
- Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing person-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed approaches.
- Provide evidence-based individual counseling services addressing; trauma and complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, grief and loss, adjustment disorders, serious mental illness, relationship and family concerns.
- Provide specialized behavioral health services to survivors of (but not limited to); domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, childhood abuse and neglect, community violence, medical trauma and historical and generational trauma
- Utilize trauma-responsive and resilience-focused treatment approaches
- Collaborate with victim services organizations, shelters, schools, and community partners
- Conduct substance use screenings and assessments
- Provide behavioral health services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
- Collaborate with probation, parole, detention facilities, diversion programs, law enforcement, and community organizations as appropriate.
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate therapeutic and psycoedcuational groups related to; trauma recovery, substance use recovery, family support, stress management, emotional wellness, chronic disease self-management, recovery education and bridges to health initiatives
- Respond to behavioral health crises and urgent client needs.
- Collaborate with medical providers to support patients with chronic disease, behavioral health concerns, and complex care needs.
- Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews and care planning meetings.
- Maintain records in accordance with with HIPAA, FTCA requirements, North Carolina regulations, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
Required Education
Master's Degree in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related behavioral health field fro an accredited institution.

Preferred Experience
- Minimum two years of clinical counseling experience preferred
- Experience working with youth ages 10 and older
- Experience supporting trauma survivors.
- Experience supporting survivors of interpersonal violence.
- Experience treating substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions.
- Experience facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.
- Experience working with justice-involved populations.
- Experience providing telehealth services.
- Experience in integrated care, nonprofit, community health, public health, free clinic, or rural healthcare settings.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented practices.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.
- Knowledge of social determinants of health and health equity principles.
- Ability to establish rapport with diverse populations.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and telehealth platforms.

- North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board Rules and Ethical Guidelines.
- North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors ethical standards.

- National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, when applicable.
- HIPAA regulations and federal confidentiality requirements.
- FTCA requirements and organizational policies.
- The Free Clinics' trauma-informed, recovery-friendly, and Sanctuary-based principles.
- Clinicians are expected to practice within the scope of their licensure, maintain professional boundaries, engage in continuing education, and demonstrate cultural humility and professionalism.
Pay: $50,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
