Position Summary
Peace Baptist Church is seeking a dependable, service-oriented Part-Time Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, welcoming, and well-organized church facilities.
The Custodian is responsible for the routine cleaning and upkeep of church buildings and assigned areas, assisting with event setup and cleanup, monitoring custodial supplies, and identifying facility conditions that may require attention.
The ideal candidate is dependable, takes pride in maintaining a clean environment, works well independently and as part of a team, and demonstrates professionalism when interacting with staff, members, volunteers, and guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform routine cleaning and daily spot cleaning throughout church facilities, including restrooms, sanctuary and worship areas, offices, kitchens, classrooms, meeting rooms, hallways, and other common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, clean glass and surfaces, empty trash and perform other routine custodial duties as assigned.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and ensure that paper products, soap, and other necessary supplies are properly stocked.
- Work collaboratively with Facilities team members, church staff, and ministries to ensure spaces are clean, organized, properly stocked, and ready for use.
- Assist with room and event setup, including the placement and removal of tables, chairs, equipment, and other materials.
- Provide post-event cleaning and assist with returning rooms and facilities to their standard configuration.
- Safely use cleaning products, chemicals, tools, and custodial equipment in accordance with established procedures and manufacturer instructions.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, goggles, masks, and other safety equipment when required.
- Perform basic facility tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing supplies, and completing minor repairs within the scope of the position.
- Monitor custodial supplies and assist with inventory and restocking.
- Identify and promptly report maintenance needs, safety concerns, property damage, or potentially hazardous conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain custodial equipment, storage areas, and supplies in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
- Interact with church staff, members, volunteers, vendors, and guests in a respectful, professional, and welcoming manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow established safety practices and procedures while performing assigned duties.
- Properly use safety devices and personal protective equipment to reduce the risk of workplace injuries.
- Safely operate church vehicles and job-related equipment when authorized and required.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, equipment problems, or other safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Take appropriate action within the scope of the position to address or secure potentially hazardous conditions until additional assistance is available.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- At least one year of custodial, janitorial, building maintenance, or related work experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of common building-cleaning practices, supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to use custodial supplies and equipment safely, economically, and efficiently.
- Ability to work independently, manage assigned responsibilities, and take appropriate initiative when needs are identified.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule based on church activities and facility needs.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular physical activity throughout the workday. The employee must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and perform repetitive movements.
- Lift, carry, push, and/or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Move tables, chairs, equipment, supplies, trash containers, and other materials as required.
- Safely use ladders, cleaning equipment, and other tools necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Perform custodial duties in both indoor and outdoor environments as required.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The regular work schedule is expected to include Tuesday through Friday, with some Saturdays as needed.
Specific work hours will be established upon employment based on church facility and operational needs. Candidates must have sufficient schedule flexibility to support special services, programs, meetings, and events when scheduled.
Additional or adjusted hours may occasionally be required based on church activities and facility needs.
Driver Requirements
When driving is required as part of assigned job responsibilities, the employee must:
- Possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
- Maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Safely operate church vehicles in accordance with church policies and applicable laws.
- Be available for occasional local or in-state business travel when required to perform assigned duties.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Employment may be contingent upon:
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Verification of employment eligibility.
- Verification of a valid driver's license when driving is an essential function of the position.
- Completion of required church safety, facility, and custodial training.
