Controls Installation Technicians - Tech 2 to Tech 4

Available Positions:
- Controls Installation Technician
The Controls Installation Technician is responsible for the installation, wiring, and commissioning of building automation and temperature control systems at a multi-facility datacenter campus. This role requires proficiency in reading control drawings, installing conduit and enclosures, and integrating control components into HVAC systems. The Controls Installation Technician plays a vital part in ensuring that EMCS’s energy management and automation systems are installed accurately, safely, and efficiently.
Technicians in this role are expected to uphold EMCS’s high standards of quality, professionalism, and customer service, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and continuous learning. Veterans are highly encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, wire, and commission building automation and HVAC control systems.
- Interpret control drawings, plans, and specifications to perform accurate installations.
- Install conduit, enclosures, wiring, sensors, and control devices according to design documentation.
- Prepare for on-site installation by reviewing building layouts, anticipating challenges, gathering materials, and coordinating with other trades.
- Maintain assigned stock of inventory, tools, and equipment; record use and condition of assets.
- Complete daily documentation, including time reports, installation progress, and test results.
- Serve as a customer-facing representative, ensuring satisfaction through clear communication and professional service.
- Maintain and inspect company tools, and equipment to ensure readiness and safety.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and repairs to existing control systems as assigned.
- Enforce EMCS safety standards and follow all applicable job-site regulations.
- Participate in regular and manufacturer (OEM) training to enhance technical skillsets.
- Display flexibility to work overtime or travel based on project requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but works closely with project managers, electricians, and other field technicians to coordinate installation activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or formal controls training preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in HVAC controls, building automation, or related low-voltage systems.
- Working knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, electronics, and direct digital controls (DDC).
- Proficient with hand tools, electrical meters, and control installation methods.
- Capable of reading and interpreting HVAC mechanical drawings and wiring schematics.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software and mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, or iPads).
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in field environments.
- Previous experience with Schneider Electric or similar control systems preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical certifications or trade school completion in HVAC, Controls, or Electrical Systems.
- Previous field experience in DDC systems installation or commissioning.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair control circuits and devices.
- Experience coordinating with mechanical contractors and job-site electricians.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE
- Must be able to operate a vehicle safely and wear appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety goggles, harness, safety boots).
- Must be able to lift or move up to 40 lbs frequently and occasionally more with approval.
- Regularly required to climb ladders, bend, kneel, twist, and work in confined spaces.
- Must be comfortable accessing rooftops (15–50 ft) and working in variable weather conditions.
