This opportunity would include the following requirements and qualifications:
Responsibilities include:
-
Teach engaging, standards-based theatre courses for students in grades 912, including Theatre I, Theatre II, Backstage Elements, and Early College Dual Enrollment Theatre.

Plan and deliver creative, rigorous, and student-centered instruction that aligns with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, district curriculum, and educational goals while connecting theatre to real-world skills and career readiness.

Develop comprehensive lesson plans, instructional materials, and meaningful assessments that meet the diverse learning needs of all students through whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction.

Direct both the fall play and spring musical, guiding students through every aspect of the production process, from auditions through final performances.

Teach technical theatre through the Backstage Elements course, introducing students to production roles including scenic construction, lighting, sound, costumes, props, stage management, and theatrical design.

Instruct students enrolled in the district's Early College Dual Enrollment Theatre Program, maintaining high academic expectations while preparing students for collegiate-level coursework.

Create a safe, inclusive, and collaborative classroom environment where students feel valued, challenged, and empowered to take artistic risks.

Foster creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership through meaningful theatrical experiences that prepare students for success both on and off the stage.

Collaborate with colleagues to support and strengthen Hoboken Public Schools' award-winning K12 Performing Arts Department, contributing to curriculum development, interdisciplinary partnerships, and department initiatives.

Prepare, mentor, and travel with students to local, state, and national theatre festivals, competitions, and educational experiences, including evening, weekend, and out-of-state events.

Build and maintain productive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and community partners to support student achievement and program excellence.

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and other duties consistent with district policies and the responsibilities of a high school educator.
The ideal candidate will possess:

Previous experience teaching secondary theatre.

Experience directing theatrical productions and working with student performers.

Strong knowledge of acting, directing, theatrical design, and production practices.

Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.

A commitment to student growth, artistic excellence, and educational equity.

The ability to build meaningful relationships with students while cultivating a positive and collaborative theatre community.
Requirements & Qualifications

NJ Theater Teacher Certificate (1451)

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods

Ability to maintain a positive learning environment

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Criminal history background check, physical clearance and PTT

Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status
Compensation:As per HEA Contract
