Job Summary
The Utility Supervisor will ensure the reliable, safe and efficient operations of key utility services. Such as steam, cooling water, process/well water, wastewater treatment and discharge, compressed air and nitrogen. Overall responsibility for system reliability, project engineering, maintenance and troubleshooting, regulatory compliance and safety, efficiency optimization and 24/7 technical engineering support.
Essential Responsibilities
The role focuses on ensuring that the plant's infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and compliant with environmental regulations:
- System Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, including boilers, cooling towers, chillers, water treatment systems and process well water.
- Process Optimization: Develop and implement strategies to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs or environmental impact
- Project Management: Plan and execute infrastructure projects, from initial feasibility studies to selecting technologies and materials
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all utility systems meet strict safety standards and regulatory requirements for the chemical industry
- Troubleshooting: Proactively diagnose and address potential system failures to minimize production downtime
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
- 3-7 years’ experience in chemical plant utilities
- Proficient in and knowledge of federal, state and local regulations
- Preferred Class 2 Red Seal Certification (Boiler) and Water Treatment and N3 Industrial Waste and T2 for potable water
- Ability to manually lift, push and move up to 25 lbs. throughout shift.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A desire to work with team members to improve processes and product quality in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective gear when necessary
- Ability to work within an environment that requires bending, stooping, climbing, pushing/pulling, reaching (at or above shoulder height), twisting at the waist.
- Ability to work in an environment with the following conditions: chemical and mechanical operations, confined spaces, dust and fumes, working within safe proximity to forklift and machine operations, exposure to heat and humidity, hearing or talking around loud machinery, and wearing personal protective equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically able to operate variety of electronic office equipment – computer, printer, radio, phone.
- At times, prolonged periods of sitting at desk working on computer/workstation and on calls.
- May occasionally need to lift up to 25 pounds.
- May occasionally need to bend, stoop, reach and/or twist at the waist.
- Ability based upon position and need to perform duties/visit/walk through a manufacturing environment with the following conditions; chemical and mechanical operations, dust and fumes, working within safe but proximity to forklift and machine operations, exposure to heat and humidity, hearing or talking around loud machinery.
- Wearing of personal protective equipment as required.
