About Bay Montessori School
Bay Montessori School has been serving Southern Maryland families since 1994 and is an accredited American Montessori Society (AMS) school. We provide an authentic Montessori education for children from infancy through Middle School on our beautiful 13-acre campus in Lexington Park, Maryland.
Our campus includes thoughtfully prepared Montessori classrooms, art studio, STEM lab, library, swimming pool, gardens, nature trails, and spacious fields that encourage movement, exploration, and healthy living. Position Summary
Bay Montessori School is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic Physical Education Teacher to inspire students to develop healthy habits, teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.
The Physical Education Teacher provides engaging instruction for students from Primary through Middle School using developmentally appropriate activities that promote physical fitness, motor skill development, sportsmanship, cooperation, and personal growth. The ideal candidate creates an inclusive environment where every child feels successful and enjoys being active.
Responsibilities
- Plan and teach engaging physical education classes for students across multiple grade levels.
- Develop lessons that build age-appropriate motor skills, coordination, balance, strength, endurance, and teamwork.
- Foster sportsmanship, cooperation, respect, and self-confidence through physical activity.
- Incorporate a variety of individual and team activities, games, movement challenges, and fitness experiences.
- Promote healthy lifestyles and the importance of lifelong physical activity.
- Supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities while maintaining a safe learning environment.
- Inspect and maintain physical education equipment and learning spaces.
- Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership to support student development.
- Communicate professionally with families regarding student progress when appropriate.
- Follow all school policies and safety procedures.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience teaching or coaching children in a school, recreation, or youth program setting.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage students of varying ages and abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to safely lift and move equipment and actively participate in physical activities throughout the day.
Preferred
- Maryland teaching certification.
- Montessori experience or an interest in learning Montessori philosophy.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience teaching elementary-aged children.
