The Redondo Beach Police Department is actively recruiting qualified individuals for appointment as Reserve Police Officers. Uniforms and safety equipment are supplied. This is a non-compensated, voluntary position.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Level II
Level II Reserves will work a minimum of 16 hours per month in various assignments – uniform and plain clothes. In addition to emergency and general law enforcement duties, may be assigned to transport prisoners, priority patrol projects, special events and activities, and to work other duties within various divisions as assigned by the Chief of Police and/or his/her designee. Reserve Police Officers, while on duty and under immediate supervision of a regular officer, have the same law enforcement power as a regular officer. They can be assigned to the prevention and detection of crime, and in doing so, have the authority to perform the same general enforcement functions as the regular officers with whom they are assigned.
Level III
Level III Reserves will have Peace Officer powers of arrest while on duty (826.6(a)(3) PC). Level III Reserves will be deployed and authorized to carry out limited duties not requiring general law enforcement powers in the routine performance of their duties.
All Reserve Officers will be required to attend a monthly business training meeting and may be required to attend monthly firearms training. All Reserve Officers are expected to comply with all requirements of the Reserve Officer Field Training and Evaluation Program Manual.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process. The pre-employment process may include but not be limited to: Reference checks, background investigation, fingerprint-based criminal history check, credit check, degree verification, and post-offer medical examination and drug test. For public safety positions, including positions based in the Police and/or Fire Department(s), the pre-employment process may also include but not be limited to a P.O.S.T. compliant background check, polygraph examination, post-offer medical examination and drug test, and post-offer psychological examination.
