Organic Production Manager
Job Summary
Manages the day-to-day operations of the organically certified farmland at the Alan T. Busby and Freeman Farms. Responsible for all documentation and record keeping as required to maintain organic certification. Works with the Farm Superintendent to maintain and coordinate the organic certification compliance of the Busby Farm and Freeman Farmland according to the USDA's National Organic Plan. Manages farm livestock within an intensive grazing management system. Coordinates with the Principal Investigators on the various tasks which needed to be completed on their respective organic research plots on the Busby and Freeman Farms. Serves as the Direct Supervisor for the Busby Farm Assistant Farm Manager, Busby Farm Assistant, as well as, Casuals, and Student employees at the Busby Farm. Operates farm equipment as required to maintain the arm operations. Schedules and coordinates events and field days at the Busby Farm. Assists the Farm Superintendent with establishing the budget for the Busby Farm. Maintains grounds and facilities at the Busby Farm.
Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Purchase supplies and materials for Busby Farm.

Assist Farm Superintendent with budget for the Busby Farm.

Directly responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Busby Farm and the certified organic land at the Freeman Farm.

Serve as the primary contact for the university's organic certifying agent to maintain organic compliance and certification for the Busby Farm and land at the Freeman Farm.

Maintain all required documentation of the farm operations as required for organic certification.

Management and maintenance of livestock and grazing systems.

Operate and maintain farm equipment.

Coordinate with researchers to facilitate research activities.

Coordinate and conduct tours of the Busby Farm facility for various outside groups.

Supervise the Busby Farm Assistant, Farm Manager, and Farm assistant.

Supervise students and casual workers at the Busby Farm.

Assist Lincoln faculty members with lab activities at the Busby Farm.

Maintain the grounds and facility located at the Busby Farm.

Maintain all livestock and research plot records.

Complete Job Performance Evaluation for the Assistant Farm Manager, Farm Assistant, and casual positions at the Busby Farm.

Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-
Knowledge of organic and integrated production principles, methods, and regulations for livestock and crops is required.

Knowledge of day-to-day farm operations is required. (Animals, plants, soils, forestry, etc.)

Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Candidates must have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.

Must be punctual and dependable with the ability to multi-task and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Ability to operate farm equipment is required.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture or closely related field is required.

Experience with organic and integrated agricultural production is required.

Experience with the organic certification process is required.

Valid driver's license is required.

Two years' experience working with animals and farm operations is preferred.
Physical Requirement

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work for prolonged periods in inclement weather conditions.
