We are seeking a passionate, organized, and experienced Director of Dietary Services to lead our Dietary Department and ensure every resident receives nutritious, high-quality meals in a safe, welcoming environment.

As the Director of Dietary Services, you will oversee the daily operations of the Dietary Department while working closely with the Registered Dietitian and interdisciplinary team to deliver exceptional nutritional care.
Your responsibilities will include:

Lead, supervise, and develop the Dietary Services team, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and Service Excellence.

Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, and evaluate dietary staff to ensure high performance and professional growth.

Develop and maintain staffing schedules to ensure appropriate department coverage.

Manage departmental budgets, monitor expenses, and maintain financial records in accordance with organizational expectations.

Purchase food, supplies, and equipment from approved vendors while ensuring proper receiving, storage, inventory control, and food safety practices.

Ensure meals, therapeutic diets, and nutritional supplements are prepared and served in accordance with physician orders, resident care plans, dietary guidelines, and resident preferences.

Collaborate with the Registered Dietitian to support individualized nutrition care plans and enhance resident satisfaction.

Participate in resident assessments, quarterly reviews, MDS Section K documentation, and nutrition-related care planning as assigned.

Promote resident choice and continuously improve the dining experience through menu planning and service enhancements.

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, CMS, and company regulations governing dietary services in long-term care.

Maintain the highest standards of sanitation, food safety, infection prevention, and workplace safety.

Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives and Infection Prevention programs.

Build collaborative relationships with nursing, therapy, activities, environmental services, and other departments to ensure coordinated resident care.

Attend leadership meetings, care conferences, safety meetings, and interdisciplinary team meetings.

Coordinate departmental in-service education and ongoing staff training.

Maintain all required certifications and continuing education.

Promote a positive, respectful, and resident-centered culture where every interaction reflects compassion, dignity, and professionalism.

One of the following qualifications:
-
Registered Dietitian (RD)
-
Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or
-
Successful completion of a Dietary Managers Association (DMA) approved Dietary Management program, or
-
Certification as a Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) through the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers.

Previous leadership or management experience in dietary services, preferably in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care setting.

Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, food safety standards, sanitation, infection prevention, and therapeutic diets.

Experience managing departmental budgets, staffing, scheduling, and inventory.

Excellent leadership, organizational, customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Proficiency with computer systems and electronic documentation preferred.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and lift throughout the workday.

Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 100 pounds with appropriate equipment or assistance when necessary.

Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment.

Ability to work in kitchen environments with exposure to heat, cold, moisture, and varying temperatures.

Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces when necessary.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and participate in on-call responsibilities as needed.
