The Literacy Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been empowering adults through education since 1977. The Literacy Center delivers high-quality instruction, training, and support for adults who are experiencing language, education, and employment barriers.
The Literacy Center is seeking a full time, Adult Learning & Workforce Development Coordinator.
The Adult Learning & Workforce Development Coordinator will organize the following programs and services:
- High School Equivalency (GED) Program
- College Access Program
- Digital Literacy & Job Training Programs
- Career Management Services
- Academic & Student Support Services
Responsibilities:
- Help adults prepare for and obtain their High School Equivalency (GED), apply for college or post-secondary education, develop digital literacy and job skills, and find employment.
- Conduct outreach, enrollment, intake, and testing of students.
- Help students identify and progress toward their educational and professional goals by assisting with career identification, goal development, and action planning.
- Provide academic support by helping students with digital learning tools, distance learning, exam preparation, and the coordination of individual and small group tutoring.
- Help students overcome any barriers that may prevent them from achieving their goals. Assist students with identifying potential obstacles and solutions. Collaborate with community organizations to develop partnerships for student referrals.
- Deliver individual College Access Counseling to students interested in college or post-secondary education.
- Schedule colleges and universities for information sessions with students.
- Provide individual Career Counseling to students looking for employment.
- Coordinate and facilitate workshops on career management topics such as resume writing, job search, interview skills, etc.
- Organize career fairs and employer hiring events.
- Perform all data collection and reporting using The Literacy Center's and the state’s database systems.
- Coordinate all student and program evaluation systems.
- Responsible for all communications with prospective and current students.
- Collaborate with and support instructors and volunteers.
- Complete state and professional development training and assignments.
- Attend local and regional meetings related to programs.
- Assist with organizing graduation and other The Literacy Center events.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience coordinating adult learning and/or workforce development programs and working with adult students.
- Background coordinating High School Equivalency (GED), College Access, and/or Workforce Development programs.
- Knowledge of how to effectively support adult learners with diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding how to help adults identify and progress toward their educational and professional goals.
- Experience helping adult students overcome barriers that may prevent them from achieving their goals.
- Experience working with adults as they transition to college, post-secondary education, and/or employment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint, SharePoint, Google Workspace, Zoom, and database systems. Demonstrated effective and accurate data collection, record keeping, and reporting skills. Must have excellent database management skills.
- Outstanding communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with community partners and volunteers.
- Must have a successful track record of completing projects, meeting deadlines, and achieving program goals and objectives.
- Ability to work one or two evenings per week (12pm-8:30pm).
- Must complete a criminal background check.
