Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Caretaker to join our team. This role is essential in providing high-quality care for sheep on our facility. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of animal physiology and anatomy, along with hands-on experience in animal handling and husbandry. As an Shepherd, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of the animals under your care.
Duties would include :
- managing the sheep
- fence checks daily for predation
- wellness checks on the guardian dogs (feed daily or every other day)
- vet trips for dogs or sheep, feeding sheep 3-4 times a week
- sorting sheep
- weaning lambs
- Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff.
- working sheep
- moving sheep from one site to another
- ensuring all water onsite it full at all times
- rotational grazing rotation
- weekly reports on vegetation quality and height requirements are being met to meet the contract requirements
- Maintain clean and safe living environments for all animals.
- Document animal observations and care activities accurately.
Requirements
- Valid Drivers license with clean driving record and >21 years old (company insurance requirements)
- CDL preferred not required
- Must be able to pass an initial drug tests and continual drug tests
- Must have a clear background check
- References required
Experience
- Previous experience as a ranchhand, cowboy, shepherd, animal carertaker, Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant is preferred.
- Familiarity with animal husbandry practices and medication administration is essential.
- Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology is highly desirable.
- Experience in sheep and dog handling and general animal handling skills are required.

Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
