Summary
We are seeking reliable and motivated individuals to serve as Substitute Bus Drivers at our Bus Garage. The ideal candidate(s) will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students on an as-needed basis. This position requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety and service.
Responsibilities
- Operate a school bus safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Transport students to and from designated locations according to established routes and schedules.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students during transportation, including assisting with boarding and disembarking.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and any incidents that occur during transportation.
- Communicate effectively with school personnel regarding any changes to routes or schedules.
- Respond to emergencies and handle difficult situations with professionalism and care.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on safety protocols and operational procedures.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the bus garage and vehicles.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating a bus.
- Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents in the past three years.
- Previous experience driving a bus or similar vehicle preferred, but not required.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening as mandated by state and federal regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with students, parents, and staff.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including early mornings and afternoons.
- Physical ability to assist passengers and perform tasks related to vehicle maintenance.
