Tasting Room Manager
It is our goal at Singing Water Vineyards that our loyal customers would be known and recognized as VIPs when visiting with us. The Tasting Room Manager is the owner of the relationship with guests and future members and ultimately is responsible for the guest experience from the time the guest steps onto our property and leaves. You are the first impression.
Training
At Singing Water we believe training our staff on the Singing Water way is huge. As we want consistency across the board, it is the responsibility of the Tasting Room Manager to train staff according to the guidelines set by the GM and AGM, including onboarding new Tasting Room Associates and Hosts, running ongoing wine and service education, and coaching staff to Singing Water's hospitality standard.
Responsibilities
Key facets:
- Own the day-to-day operation of the tasting room, ensuring every guest is treated as a VIP from arrival to departure.
- Lead, schedule, and coach Tasting Room Associates/Hosts to deliver consistent, memorable guest experiences.
- Train new and existing staff according to guidelines set by the GM and AGM; maintain training materials and onboarding checklists.
- Represent the Singing Water brand, products, and services with passion and integrity at all times.
- Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of Singing Water history, wines, and services, and ensure staff do the same.
- Monitor daily sales, tasting fees, and wine club sign-ups against goals; report results to the GM/AGM.
- Manage tasting room schedules, shift coverage, and labor costs.
- Ensure compliance with TABC and food-handling requirements across all tasting room staff.
Guest Experience & Sales
- Set the tone for warm, knowledgeable, high-energy hospitality on the floor.
- Personally step in to host, pour, and resolve guest concerns during peak periods or escalations.
- Promote and drive wine club memberships, tastings, glass pours, and bottle sales through staff coaching.
- Provide general tourist information and ensure staff are equipped to do the same.
- Oversee handling of guests who have had too much to drink, per training, and ensure staff are confident doing the same.
Operations & Facilities
- Maintain appearance, cleanliness, and organization of the tasting room, bar, and guest-facing areas.
- Oversee wine and retail merchandise inventory on the floor; coordinate restocking with the appropriate teams.
- Manage opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and POS accuracy.
- Coordinate with the kitchen/outside grill and events teams to ensure smooth guest flow during busy periods and events.
Team Leadership
- Conduct regular check-ins and feedback with tasting room staff.
- Handle scheduling conflicts, performance issues, and staff recognition in partnership with the GM/AGM.
- Foster a culture aligned with Singing Water's core values.
- Perform other duties as required, including assisting other departments as needed.
Requirements
- Professional appearance and demeanor; personable, welcoming, with excellent hospitality and customer service focus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience, ideally in a tasting room, restaurant, or hospitality setting.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Must be able to work weekends, holiday periods, and evening events.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, and lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to both vision big and handle details.
- Desire to lead and teach others to be successful while remaining teachable.
- Proficient in POS systems and computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Comfortable answering and handling business phone calls professionally.
- Strong conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to handle guest and staff issues calmly and effectively.
- Wine sales-related experience required, including knowledge of wines and wine production.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must be TABC certified (will provide) and hold a Food Handler's certificate (will provide).
Education and Experience
- Two or more years of tasting room, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
Hours & Compensation
- Full time; must be available to work most but not all weekends, holiday long weekends, and special events.
- Salary/hourly compensation commensurate with experience (to be finalized by GM/AGM).
Work Environment
The tasting room is a non-smoking work environment. Team members working in the tasting room are asked not to smoke during a workday and to remain free from any aroma associated with smoking, as well as heavily scented perfumes, hand lotions, or hair products, so as not to interfere with the tasting of wines.
