Salary Range: $51,255 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary
The University Police Department at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites candidates to apply for the next Police Cadet Academy.
The Police Cadet attends and satisfactorily completes the University of Texas System Police Academy, qualifying for commissioning as a peace officer of the University of Texas System.
Core Responsibilities

Attends and satisfactorily completes the University of Texas System Police Academy, qualifying for commissioning as a peace officer of the University of Texas System.

Attends classes and maintains comprehensive notebooks of subjects covered in classes.
-
Prepares research papers.
-
Completes homework assignments.
-
Participates in the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, and practical problems.
-
Participates in classroom discussions and group projects.
-
Complies with the established rules and regulations governing The University of Texas System Police Academy.
-
Complies with assignments and instructions given by the Director of Police, The University of Texas System, or by any member of the Academy staff.
-
Complies with policies of respective component institution police departments relating to his/her status and attendance at the Academy.
-
Adheres to the rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System.

Promotes safety and environmental protection by immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

High School graduation or GED.
-
Must reach 21st birthday on or before the date of commissioning.

Must have a valid driver's license.
-
Must be eligible to work in secure and/or restricted-access facilities and demonstrate the ability to meet all compliance standards, including those mandated by grant funding agencies and site-specific security protocols.

Must have never been convicted, pleaded guilty to (nolo contendere), nor have court-ordered community service/probation or deferred adjudication for a Class A misdemeanor or a felony.

During the last ten (10) years, must not have been convicted, pleaded guilty to (nolo contendere), been on community service/probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B misdemeanor in this state, other states, or while serving in the military.

If applicable, must have received an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least two (2) years of active service.

Must pass a written entry-level exam.

Must pass the required physical agility test.
-
Must be examined by a licensed physician and a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist.

Must complete and pass a polygraph examination.
-
Must complete all the requirements of a thorough background investigation.

This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Classroom conditions. Exposure to outside weather conditions during firearms training and exercises involving practical problems. Some outside training is conducted at night.
Physical Demands

Duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding. Excellent physical condition and vision, ability to hear and speak and full use of arms and legs.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
