Responsibilities
- Operate belly dump trailers safely and efficiently across over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering to all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Manage the loading and unloading process, including manual handling of freight such as hazardous materials (hazmat), dangerous goods, or bulk commodities like gravel or sand.
- Navigate using GPS systems to ensure timely deliveries while optimizing routes for fuel efficiency and safety.
- Maintain compliance with hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous cargo, ensuring proper documentation and handling procedures are followed.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor-trailers, including flatbed or tanker configurations if applicable, to identify maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Load and unload freight with precision, ensuring cargo is secured properly to prevent shifting during transit.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery schedules, or any incidents encountered on the road.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on tractor-trailer operations, preferably involving flatbed or tanker loads.
- Demonstrated knowledge of truck loading and unloading procedures, including logistics cargo handling and freight management.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers and automobile transportation is a plus but not mandatory.
- Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with endorsements relevant to hazmat transportation and manual transmission operation.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for dangerous goods transport.
- Experience navigating route driving scenarios using GPS navigation systems across long-distance OTR routes.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely and efficiently while maintaining high safety standards throughout all operations.
