Position Summary
The Sheet Metal Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, fabricating, repairing, and installing sheet metal components associated with roofing and building envelope systems. This position performs field repairs, leak investigations, preventative maintenance, and custom sheet metal work while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sheet Metal Service & Repair
- Perform repairs and replacement of roofing-related sheet metal systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair leaks associated with metal flashings, edge metal, coping caps, gutters, downspouts, scuppers, collector boxes, and wall flashings.
- Install, repair, and replace architectural sheet metal systems.
- Perform emergency service repairs and leak response work.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs and roof inspections.
- Ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications and Black Roofing & Waterproofing quality standards.
Fabrication & Installation
- Fabricate custom sheet metal components in the shop and field.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, specifications, and field measurements.
- Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.

Inspection & Documentation
- Conduct field inspections to identify deficiencies and causes of leaks.
- Take photographs before, during, and after repair work.
- Provide accurate documentation of completed work and observed conditions.
- Submit detailed field reports and recommendations to the Service Estimator.
- Assist with developing repair scopes and recommendations.
Business Development & Opportunity Identification
- Identify additional repair, maintenance, replacement, and waterproofing opportunities while performing service work.
- Document and communicate roof and building envelope deficiencies to the Service Estimator.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for preventative maintenance agreements and recurring service work.
- Support department growth through proactive communication and customer relationship building.
- Educate customers on observed conditions and potential long-term solutions when appropriate.
Customer Service
- Represent Black Roofing & Waterproofing professionally at all times.
- Communicate effectively with customers, property managers, and building occupants.
- Provide updates regarding repair progress and jobsite conditions.
- Build trust and confidence through professionalism and quality workmanship.
- Support long-term customer relationships through exceptional service.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety requirements.
- Conduct jobsite hazard assessments before beginning work.
- Utilize fall protection, PPE, and safe work practices at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately.
Equipment & Vehicle Care
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, fabrication equipment, and service equipment.
- Perform routine inspections of assigned equipment and vehicles.
- Ensure company assets are protected and maintained in good condition.
- Report equipment maintenance needs promptly.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of sheet metal experience preferred.
- Experience in commercial roofing and architectural sheet metal systems.
- Service and repair experience preferred.
Technical Skills
- Ability to fabricate and install architectural sheet metal components.
- Knowledge of roofing systems and building envelope construction.
- Ability to diagnose leaks and identify root causes.
- Proficiency operating sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
- General knowledge of commercial and residential building construction systems.

Physical Requirements

Requirements
- Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
- OSHA 10 Certification preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Must pass background screening, drug screening, and MVR review.
