Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Registered Nurse – Unit Manager / Supervisor to lead and oversee nursing operations within a busy healthcare facility. This pivotal role combines clinical expertise with strong leadership, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care while managing daily team activities. Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise nursing staff to deliver high-quality patient care across various units, including acute care, geriatrics, behavioral health, or specialized units such as ICU or pediatric care.
- Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, IV infusion, catheter care, and tube feeding procedures in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensure accurate medical documentation using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and state healthcare regulations.
- Coordinate discharge planning, case management, and utilization review processes to optimize patient outcomes and resource utilization.
- Conduct regular staff evaluations, manage scheduling, and facilitate ongoing training on topics such as infection control, sterile processing, and advanced life support techniques like ventilator management or airway management.
- Maintain strict adherence to nursing policies, long-term care regulations, and safety standards including basic life support certification.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans for patients with diverse needs such as dementia care, developmental disabilities, or critical & intensive care cases.
Skills
- Extensive experience working with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth; proficiency in ICD-9/10 coding and CPT coding is preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience supervising nursing teams in complex settings like ICU, trauma centers (Level I & II), or hospital medicine units.
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, specimen collection/processing, phlebotomy, and venipuncture.
- Expertise in managing critical care procedures such as ventilator support, cardiac catheterization preparation, spinal taps, or NG tube placement.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance and long-term care standards; experience managing care facilities is highly valued.
- Excellent managerial communication skills for effective team management and coordination within fast-paced environments like emergency medicine or neonatal intensive care units (NICU).
