Apprentice Carpenter
Reports To: Lead Carpenter & Production Manager
Type: Full-Time
Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (half-hour unpaid lunch)
About the Role
The Apprentice Carpenter is a key member of the J.E.P. Contracting field team, working & learning with the guidance of the Lead Carpenter and Production Manager. This hands-on role is ideal for a novice carpenter looking to learn, take pride in quality work, and is looking to grow within an established design/build firm. The Apprentice carpenter must exhibit good judgment, motivation, and consideration to all co-workers, subcontractors, and clients. High-performance customer service is J.E.P. Contracting, Inc.’s standard and is expected of all our employees.
We’re looking for a team player who’s willing to jump in wherever needed, learn our systems and processes, and consistently deliver craftsmanship that meets J.E.P.’s high standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Safety
- Protecting the client’s property while working on the job site from any loss.
- Maintaining site cleanliness to J.E.P. Contracting standards and beyond.
- Adhering to company policies regarding safety, language, drugs, drinking, and smoking.
- Adhering to J.E.P. Contracting's safety manual & OSHA regulations at all job sites.
Carpentry & Field Work
- Assist in safety & protection to prepare for the project to start.
- Assist with job site setup and daily cleanup.
- The lead carpenter reviews the daily plan at the end of each day to prepare for the following day’s goals.
- Assist with any on-site Carpentry, as assigned by the Lead Carpenter/Project Manager.
- Receiving deliveries and on-site or off-site storage; signing receipts and checking to ensure proper quantities and quality.
- Storing materials in a way that reduces damage after they are delivered to the site.
- With the help of on-site team members, assist in erecting scaffolding and staging at the location determined by the lead.
- Responsible for having your tools based on the tool list
- All other duties as assigned by the Lead Carpenter or Production Manager
- Show a humble approach and sincere eagerness to acquire new skills
Software & Communication
- All communication must pass through the Lead Carpenter. Take notes, if needed. When possible, revert all information to the Lead Carpenter.
- Become familiar with the current projects’ workflow, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
- Punch in and out correctly using JobTread’s electronic time and attendance system
- Document detailed daily job logs using JobTread
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License-no exceptions
- Highly motivated & eager to contribute to an existing collaborative, growth-oriented team. Together, we strive to deliver high-quality craftsmanship & efficient project support for our clients.
- Maintain a daily consistent professional appearance to represent J.E.P Contracting.
- Basic working knowledge of a computer. IE, email & the agility & patience to learn cloud-based software & job management software.
- 10 hours per year of continued training, including OSHA and RRP.
- 1-3 years of documented experience.
Compensation & Benefits
- Payroll is done weekly, on Friday & the work week runs Sunday-Saturday.
- Competitive hourly rate; payroll processed weekly (Fridays)
- Overtime rate applies after 40 hours
After 60 Days
- $50,000 life insurance policy & Long Term Disability provided (effective 1st of the following month)
After 90 Days
- If needed, Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance begins on the 1st of the following month.
- AFLAC supplemental accident plan provided (on and off the job)
- 7 paid holidays begin
- 40 hours paid personal/sick time issued annually
- An additional 3 unpaid sick days are available for full-time employees
After 1 Year
- 40 hours paid vacation for full-time employees

Pay: $19.50 - $22.00 per hour
