Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Staff member to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals with diverse needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in home and community care settings, with a focus on supporting individuals with cognitive disabilities, developmental disabilities, and age-related conditions such as dementia. As a vital part of our team, you will promote independence, ensure safety, and foster a respectful environment that enhances the well-being of residents and clients.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature to ensure health stability.
- Support medication administration following prescribed protocols while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, including Alzheimer's and dementia-specific strategies.
- Operate manual handling equipment such as Hoyer lifts safely to assist with resident transfers.
- Prepare nutritious meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and assist residents during meal times.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment through regular cleaning and sanitation practices.
- Engage residents in social activities and provide emotional support to promote mental well-being.
- Follow safety procedures including first aid, CPR certification, and safe patient lifting practices to respond effectively during emergencies.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and team members to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
Skills
- Proven experience in assisted living, long-term care, or home & community care environments.
- Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, and behavioral management techniques.
- Ability to perform standard passenger car operation for transportation needs when required.
- Familiarity with medication administration protocols and vital signs monitoring.
- Strong caregiving skills with experience working with individuals with disabilities or cognitive impairments.
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction and teamwork coordination.
- Physical ability for heavy lifting, manual handling, and resident mobility assistance.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is essential; additional certifications in caregiving or social work are advantageous.
- Ability to maintain a respectful, patient-centered approach while managing multiple responsibilities.
Drug Screen and Background check required.
