Job Summary
Newswatch 12 is looking for a talented, passionate and dedicated multimedia reporter to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism and a keen eye for detail, with the ability to research, write, and edit compelling stories that engage our audience. The successful candidate will be a positive problem solver who can work quickly to produce compelling daily content. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity.
Responsibilities
- Research and investigate news stories, trends, and topics of interest to provide accurate and timely information.
- Pitch enterprise and compelling stories.
- Write clear, engaging articles that adhere to our publication's style guide.
- Edit content for clarity, grammar, and factual accuracy before publication.
- Conduct interviews with sources to gather insights and quotes for stories.
- Manage social media accounts by sharing articles, engaging with followers, and promoting content.
- Develop contacts with sources in and around north central Wisconsin.
- Collaborate with editors and other team members to brainstorm story ideas and develop content strategies.
- Fact-check information to ensure all published material is credible and reliable.
- Capture photographs or video footage as needed to complement written pieces.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in journalism or a similar role is highly desirable.
- Strong copy editing and copywriting skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in research techniques and fact-checking processes.
- Familiarity with social media management tools and strategies.
- Strong on-air presentation with the ability to speak smoothly and at times unscripted.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience in photography is a plus but not required.
