Overview
Truck Driver & Delivery Specialists are positive, energetic individuals who have a passion for excellent customer service and community engagement. This position is primarily focused on driving The Green Chair Project trucks to pick up donations from the community and delivering furniture and furnishings to families we serve. This role is essential to our mission and the reliable transportation of critical goods that help transform families' lives.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Drive company trucks to scheduled donation pickup locations throughout the community.
- Load and secure furniture and donations properly to prevent damage during transport.
- Deliver furniture and furnishings to families served by The Green Chair Project in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and organization to reflect our organization's values.
- Complete vehicle maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues or needed repairs immediately.
- Maintain accurate records of pickups, deliveries, mileage, and fuel usage.
- Interact professionally with community donors and family recipients.
- Assist in warehouse operations as needed when not actively driving.
- Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations; maintain a clean driving record.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing tasks as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of delivery routes and optimize routes for efficiency.
Required Skills and Capabilities
- Valid state driver's license required (must pass DMV check and maintain clean driving record).
- Current auto insurance verification required.
- HS diploma, GED or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or delivery setting preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency including use of cellular devices and GPS applications.
- Ability to work in a small, non-profit environment that is fast-paced and ever-changing.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Strong team player and willing to help others across the organization.
- Self-motivated and reliable with strong attendance.
- Committed to the organization's mission, vision and principles.
Physical Demands:
- 75-100 pounds frequently, very physically demanding.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and load/unload furniture into trucks.
- Ability to drive for extended periods and navigate various road conditions.
- Ventilation in vehicles can be limited during hot summer months.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and move about frequently during shifts.
Travel Required:
- Required: Travel throughout service area for community pickups and family deliveries.
