Position: Director of Worship
Responsible to: Senior Pastor
Full-time, salaried
General Description: The Director of Worship is responsible, in coordination with the pastors, for the worship life of Desert Hills Lutheran Church. The goal is to create a welcoming place for members and visitors where music, sermons, and liturgy connect to inspire people in a deepening of their attitudes and connections with God, the spiritual family, and community.
This is accomplished through creative planning, creation, execution, and evaluation of worship experiences, both in person and online. The Director has oversight of all aspects of worship and supervision of the worship team in the execution of all facets of worship.
Specific duties:
- Schedule worship topics and integrate them with special events and other seasonal celebrations or observances.
- Create content for worship services, both in person and online.
- Act as producer of worship content, both in person and online.
- Conduct reviews before and after of worship elements and adjust for greater impact.
- Provide music management for worship by directing, scheduling, and selecting content in collaboration with other music ministers.
- Oversee, in collaboration with Asst Director of Technology, the management of audio-visual systems that support and deliver worship content. Ensure the staffing and training to run these systems effectively.
- Provide general and specific education about worship to staff, volunteers, and members.
- Serve as liaison for guests involved in worship, as well as weekly volunteers.
- Create and maintain worship budget. Work with and across other ministries to ensure appropriate resources to fulfill the collective mission of the congregation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience which demonstrated proficiency in principles of Lutheran worship.
- Proficiency in technology and aesthetics to support in person and online worship production and distribution.
- Demonstrated abilities using Planning Center, Microsoft Office, pro presenter, etc.
- Be a team player willing to provide leadership while open to receive input from others.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to organize tasks to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
- Willingness to embrace and advance the vision, mission, values, and ministries of Desert Hills Lutheran Church.
This position generally works Wednesday through Sunday, though it will be adjusted as needed to meet the needs of the worship life of the church.
