About 612 Sauna Cooperative
612 Sauna Cooperative is a member-owned cooperative dedicated to facilitating a welcoming, inclusive sauna culture through excellent community-based sauna experiences. Founded in 2016 by a group of sauna enthusiasts who came together to build a mobile sauna for the Twin Cities, 612 Sauna was the first community-owned and operated mobile sauna in the United States. Today, members and guests gather at partner sites around Minneapolis for community sauna sessions guided by trained hosts.
Our work is grounded in a set of guiding principles:
- We believe in culture and community.
- We believe in quality sauna: great heat, properly vented, and well designed.
- We believe in creating a welcoming environment.
- We believe that hosting sauna is a unique and precious responsibility.
- We believe in caring for one another and for the spaces in which we reside.
- We believe in outreach and mobility — connecting with new spaces and communities in the Twin Cities.
- We believe in sweat equity — making great sauna experiences available and affordable for everyone.
- We believe in safety and respect for everyone.
The cooperative is governed by a member-elected Board of Directors (eight seats, staggered two-year terms), which sets budget and policy direction. This role works closely with the Board to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
