We are seeking a skilled, flexible, and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team.
Position Summary
We are looking for a dedicated Full-Time Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced medical environment. In this role, you will work closely with our veterinarians and technical staff to provide excellent patient care and support clinical workflows. Cross-training is essential to our team's success; as such, this role will include split responsibilities between clinical nursing duties and client services/front desk support.
While we are looking for strong foundational nursing skills, we are also highly committed to mentorship and are happy to train the right candidate in advanced procedures.

Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Nursing Skills: Perform efficient blood draws and place intravenous (IV) catheters.
- Dental & Anesthesia Support: Perform dental prophylaxes and take digital dental radiographs, and monitor patients under anesthesia (or assist and train under our team to master these skills).
- Patient Handling & Restraint: Safely and compassionately restrain dogs and cats for exams, treatments, and diagnostics.
- Cross-Trained Client Services: Cross-train on the front desk to welcome clients, manage a multi-line phone system, answer inquiries, and schedule appointments efficiently.
- Digital Practice Management: Process client arrivals, accurately update digital medical records, verify patient information, and handle financial transactions and invoices.
- Pharmacy & Food Sales: Assist clients with prescription pick-ups, prescription food refills, and over-the-counter purchases.
- Hospital Maintenance: Maintain a sterile, clean, and organized environment across the treatment area, surgery suite, reception desk, and exam rooms.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or dual technician/receptionist role in a general practice setting is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Required: Proficiency in venipuncture (blood draws) and IV catheter placement.
- Preferred (Will Train): Experience in dental prophy, dental radiography, and anesthesia monitoring is a major plus, but we are fully willing to train a motivated candidate.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: A strong desire to cross-train and comfortably transition between clinical assistant duties and customer service/front desk responsibilities.
- Availability: Must be available to work scheduled weekend shifts.
- Software/Tech Skills: Strong computer literacy is required. Experience with Shepherd veterinary software (or similar cloud-based PIMS) is highly preferred.
