Job Description
Lincoln Glen Manor, a well-established senior living community in San Jose, is seeking a dependable and experienced Cook with strong knowledge of therapeutic and special diets. This role is essential in preparing nutritious, high-quality meals that meet the dietary and medical needs of our residents.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and physician-ordered diets
- Modify meals to accommodate special dietary needs, including low sodium, diabetic, heart-healthy, renal, and texture-modified diets (pureed, soft and bite size)
- Ensure food quality, proper portioning, and attractive presentation
- Follow all California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Title 22 dietary regulations
- Maintain strict food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards (HACCP guidelines)
- Properly store, label, and rotate food inventory
- Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and work environment
- Collaborate with dietary staff and management to meet resident needs
- Assist with inventory control and minimizing food waste
Qualifications
- Previous cooking experience in a senior living, assisted living, or healthcare environment
- Knowledge of therapeutic and modified diets
- Understanding of food safety standards and regulations
- Ability to follow menus and dietary plans accurately
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
Preferred Qualifications
- ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience working with elderly or medically complex individuals
- Experience preparing texture-modified diets
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
