Speedy Express #38 is looking for a reliable, energetic, and leadership-minded Assistant Store Manager to join our team in Mathis. Known for being the cleanest and friendliest stop on the road, our travel center/convenience store thrives on high traffic and excellent customer service.
In this role, you will work hand-in-hand with the General Manager to oversee daily operations, lead our shift team, manage inventory, and ensure our guests always have a top-tier experience—whether they are stopping for fuel, the deli, or quick convenience items.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Assist in hiring, training, motivating, and scheduling shift employees. Lead by example to maintain high morale and a fast-paced work environment.
- Daily Operations: Oversee store cleanliness, stock levels, and food/deli service standards. Ensure all fuel lanes, convenience areas, and amenities are fully operational and welcoming.
- Financial & Cash Management: Maintain accurate cash drawer balances, reconcile daily shift reports, and manage safe drops. Assist the GM with monitoring labor costs and inventory shrink.
- Customer Service: Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints with professionalism and a problem-solving attitude.
- Compliance & Safety: Enforce company policies, health department guidelines for food handling, and safety protocols for fuel/convenience operations.
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of supervisory or management experience in a convenience store, travel center, gas station, or quick-service restaurant environment.
- Availability: Must have a flexible schedule, including the ability to work opening/closing shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Skills: Strong communication, basic math/accounting skills, and proficiency with POS (Point of Sale) systems.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 40–50 lbs periodically, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications: ServSafe or local food handler/manager certification is a strong plus (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
