Job Summary:
The Snowmaking and Groomer staff are a vital part of the operations at Seven Oaks responsible for the production and maintenance of high-quality snow to ensure excellent on-hill conditions and guest safety. This position is accountable for executing snowmaking and grooming assignments efficiently and safely while learning the technical aspects of the process. This is a hands-on role involving operating, maintaining, and relocating various types of equipment, all while working in challenging winter conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
SnowMaker:
- Operate snowmaking equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources
- Produce quality snow through the use of air, water, and fan equipment
- Constant relocation of guns and hoses to various areas around the mountain
- Adjusting, turning or moving of snow guns, sometimes by hand, to maintain snowmaking efficiency
- Adjusting the water and or air flow to snow guns
- Changing nozzles on snow guns when necessary to maintain efficiency
- Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment, including checking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption, and diesel fuel systems
- Document and report mechanical/safety issues, complete maintenance logs and checklists
- Perform light maintenance or repairs on equipment
- Shovel snow, remove snow around snowmaking equipment and other areas around the resort as needed
- Maintain all safety barriers, padding, and guards around snowmaking equipment
- Work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment, high voltage, and high water pressures
- Perform other duties as assigned while waiting for optimum snowmaking weather
- Work closely with and assist other departments such as Grooming, Ski Patrol, Lift Operations
- Test the quality of snow as it is made, reporting findings and conditions to the supervisor
- Drive groomer, trucks and ATVs as necessary
- Work evening and night schedules when optimal temperatures provide for the best snowmaking
Snowcat Operator:
- Assist in providing groomed runs and trails for our guests.
- Read and understand all manuals, such as Seasonal Employee and Snow Grooming manuals, and review all Grooming Equipment Manuals.
- Understand and perform all safety aspects and routine inspections on equipment to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a general knowledge of the mountain and adhere to safety regulations.
- Be aware of fixed obstacles; hydrants, manholes ,transformers, etc.
- Use lights and other warning equipment at all times.
- Assure equipment is in safe working order prior to and during its use.
- Report mechanical deficiencies of equipment immediately.
- Record daily equipment use in vehicle logs in a concise and complete manner.
- Practice cost control while maintaining and improving efficiency of the operations.
- Report all incidents (unusual occurrences) to manager, assistant supervisor or shift leader in their absence.
- Communicate clearly and effectively via 2-way radio
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and other departments to provide direction, support and maintain good working relationships.
Maintenance:
- · Assist with lift, snowcat, and ramp maintenance
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair on general building elements. This includes interior and exterior surfaces and construction elements, windows, doors, furniture, casework, and other building systems.
- Perform snow and ice removal tasks
- Assist/perform certain repairs of plumbing and mechanical systems, kitchen equipment, lighting, etc.
- Follow and adhere to all OSHA and Hazmat/SPCC standards.
- Assist with maintenance of equipment in the Food & Beverage Department
Non-Essential Functions of the job:
- Assist with special projects including other departments’ projects, as needed.
- Assist lift operations and assume lift operating duties when needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to learn and operate snowmaking equipment
- Previous experience in snowmaking, groomer, or a related field is an asset.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, discounts, and percentages
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
- Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
Computer Skills:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Experience with scheduling software or ability to quickly learn new systems
Other Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Must be available to start near the first of November and work through mid-March
- Willingness to work outdoors, day or night, in extreme weather conditions
- Ability to work rotating shifts including overnight shifts, weekends, nights, and holidays during ski season (November-March)
- Must be self-motivated, dependable, and quick to learn in a high-demand environment
- Must have a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and personal accountability
Physical Demands
- Physcially demanding work with exposure to harsh winter conditions
- Extended periods or standing, walking, and performing manual tasks
- Frequent reaching, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Regularly climbs or balances
- Must lift/move up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.
- Overnight work and variabale shift schedules
- Outdoor work on variable terrain including snowy, icy, hard packed, wet surfaces
- Works around heavy machinery and snow cats
- Potential for long shifts during peak snowmaking operations
- Requires close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

Pay: $22.39 - $25.00 per hour
