Job Goal: To work closely with students with disabilities on a regular basis in order to provide them with the educational, physical, social/behavioral, and emotional support they need in order to appropriately participate in and benefit from the District's regular and special education activities including educational and co-curricular programs. This position is benefit eligible with prorated premiums. Essential Job Functions: Must be able to: arrive at work promptly and attend regularly follow directions and work well with others work under the stress of deadlines concentrate and perform tasks accurately react to change productively perform other tasks as assigned Other Responsibilities: Trained or willing to be trained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention De-escalation techniques and supervision of escalated students Ability to re-direct student to stay on task Willingness to assist students with bathroom/hygiene issues Flexible but dependable Ability to follow prescribed program for behavior and academics Ability to problem-solve and make decisions on the spot Ability to support academic needs Team player Willingness to work in all K-5 classrooms Behavior management skills Compassion and understanding of special needs Ability to physically maintain proximity to kids (i.e. track, recess duty, transport, work on the floor, etc) Maintain structure and productive use of kids’ time Able to provide written documentation of situations as they occur Positive attitude with understanding each class starts new DPI Special Education Aide License required. Willing to work with selected candidate to obtain licensure.
