About Muay Thai Beyond Limits
Muay Thai Beyond Limits (MTBL) is an inclusive martial arts/creative movement program serving individuals, ages 3 and up, with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
Our mission is simple: we believe everyone deserves access to the benefits of martial arts.
To ensure accessibility, we have created a sensory-friendly training environment with a sensory room, visual supports, heavy work equipment, qualified instructors, and small-group classes with a highly supportive student to instructor ratio.
Our students have a wide range of abilities and support needs, including autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, SPD, hypotonia, Down syndrome, and other intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
Our core values guide us in everything we do:
- We are a family.
- We are passionate about making a difference.
- We adapt and are flexible.
- We believe in inclusion, accessibility, and equity.
- We are creative and love to have fun.
About the Position
We are looking for two compassionate, adaptable, reliable, highly engaged Assistant Instructors to join our growing team and help us continue expanding our impact in the community.
This is not a traditional martial arts instructor position. Our students have a wide range of physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities with sensory, communication, and behavioral needs. Successful instructors must be able to adapt their approach to best support each individual student.
The Assistant Instructor will work closely with the Head Instructor to support students during inclusive Muay Thai classes, assist with demonstrations and drills, provide individualized support, and help create a safe, structured, and encouraging environment.
This position is designed for someone who is passionate about adaptive movement, enjoys working with individuals with a wide range of abilities, and is excited to learn both Muay Thai and MTBL's individualized approach.
This position is open to applicants ages 18 and older and experience working with individuals with disabilities is required. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with the disability community and understands that supporting each student may require creativity, patience, flexibility, and a willingness to continually learn.
This position is designed to provide an opportunity for the right person to grow within Muay Thai Beyond Limits.
A strong candidate may eventually have the opportunity to take on additional teaching responsibilities and work toward a Head Instructor role.
You do not need to be an experienced Muay Thai instructor to apply. We are willing to provide paid Muay Thai training and mentorship in our Muay Thai curriculum for the right candidate.
However, you must be genuinely interested in learning Muay Thai and willing to be coached. A willingness to learn and accept feedback is essential.
Responsibilities
- Assist with inclusive Muay Thai classes for children, teens, and adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities
- Work directly with students to provide individualized physical, sensory, communication, and behavioral support
- Assist students in learning and practicing Muay Thai techniques, drills, and other movement activities
- Hold pads, demonstrate techniques, and participate actively in class
- Follow individualized adaptations and instructor directions
- Help students remain engaged, regulated, and successful during class
- Recognize when a student needs a modification, break, additional support, or a different approach
- Help maintain a safe, structured, positive, and welcoming environment
- Assist with class set up, transitions, equipment and studio maintenance, and clean up
- Communicate effectively with the Head Instructor and other MTBL staff
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
- Learn and consistently implement Muay Thai Beyond Limits' teaching philosophy, curriculum, safety procedures, and adaptive strategies
- Assist with special events and community events as needed
- Take on increasing responsibility as skills and experience develop (if desired and the right fit)
Required Qualifications
Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities is REQUIRED.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting individuals with intellectual, developmental, physical, neurological, and sensory disabilities.
Additional requirements include:
- Experience working with children, ages 3 to 12
- Genuine interest in working with the disability community
- Exceptional patience and emotional regulation
- Strong ability to adapt, problem-solve, and think creatively
- Ability to follow individualized directions while also recognizing when a student needs something different
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students
- Dependability and consistent attendance
- Comfort with physical activity and participating actively in classes
- Willingness to learn Muay Thai and MTBL's specific teaching methods
- Ability to accept coaching and feedback with an open mind
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team

- CPR/First Aid certification
Compensation & Growth
$22–$25/hour, based on experience and qualifications
Additional paid training opportunities are available.
For the right candidate, this position can grow over time into increased instructional responsibilities and potentially a Head Instructor position as Muay Thai Beyond Limits continues to expand.
