Duties
- Perform medical collections such as blood, urine, and other samples accurately following aseptic techniques and laboratory protocols
- Assist with animal restraint and handling during examinations, treatments, and surgeries to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Support veterinary critical care procedures, including monitoring vital signs and administering medications under supervision
- Conduct animal catheterization procedures with precision, ensuring proper placement and patient comfort
- Maintain detailed records of patient histories, treatments, and laboratory results using veterinary software systems
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with pet owners regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-care instructions
- Assist in surgical procedures by preparing instruments, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining a sterile environment in compliance with USDA regulations and DEA guidelines
Skills
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, veterinary terminology, and medical-surgical procedures across various species including companion animals and equines
- Proficiency in veterinary software such as Cornerstone and Scribenote for record keeping and appointment scheduling
- Ability to handle dogs and other animals confidently using proper restraint techniques to ensure safety during examinations or treatments
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures including sample collection, processing, and analysis for diagnostic purposes
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction, explaining medical procedures clearly and compassionately
- Knowledge of veterinary critical care protocols and experience working in a veterinary clinic environment is highly desirable
