Wellfield Pump Technician – I:
The purpose of this position is to assist in the operation, maintenance, installation, removal, and repair of dewatering pump systems and associated infrastructure within a landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS). The technician plays a critical role in maintaining effective liquid management, ensuring system performance, safety, and environmental compliance through hands-on pump maintenance and field operations.
Responsibilities and Duties
Principal Responsibilities Include:
Pump Maintenance, Installation & Dewatering Operations
- Install, remove, replace, and maintain dewatering pumps in landfill gas wells, sumps, and condensate collection systems.
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance on pumps, including cleaning, inspection, troubleshooting, seal and component replacement, and performance verification.
- Assist with pump hoisting, lowering, alignment, and startup/shutdown procedures in accordance with site safety and operational standards.
- Maintain and repair associated pump system components including discharge piping, force mains, air lines, check valves, control tubing, and fittings.
- Perform and document liquid level readings, pump run-time checks, and flow verification to support effective dewatering operations.
- Support troubleshooting of pump failures, high liquid conditions, and system blockages to restore proper GCCS function.
GCCS Operations & Maintenance
- Occasionally may assist in balancing and tuning of the GCCS, which may include but is not limited to the following:
- Perform wellfield valve and vacuum adjustments, data collection, and routine maintenance activities.
- Develop a basic understanding of environmental regulations related to GCCS operations and work within an environmentally regulated industry.
- Assist in the proper operation and maintenance of the following GCCS equipment:
- Landfill gas flare(s)
- End‑use projects (High‑Btu plants, internal combustion engines, etc.)
- Perform preventative maintenance on GCCS components including hoses, wellheads, ports, risers, jumpers, and associated hardware to maintain system integrity and prevent air intrusion.
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain electronic data collection and monitoring devices used to optimize landfill gas and liquid management.
Reporting & Recordkeeping
- Maintain records of pump maintenance, installations, removals, and repairs, including preventive maintenance documentation.
- Collect and submit required reporting data for regulatory compliance, operational tracking, and system optimization.
- Collect and manage wellfield data including readings, pump logs, well logs, and other required documentation.
Availability & Support
- Remain on call (when instructed) for after‑hours shutdowns, pump failures, flooding conditions, and emergency response activities.
- Assist landfill personnel as needed and maintain professional working relationships with landfill management and staff.
- Cross‑train with the Site Manager to ensure pump systems and critical dewatering tasks can be completed when supervisory staff are unavailable.
Safety & Security
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements while performing pump installation, removal, and maintenance activities.
- Proactively identify and report conditions that may affect pump performance, system safety, or environmental compliance.
- Operate and maintain company vehicles and equipment safely, maintaining logs and records as required.
Qualifications and Skills
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, including pumps, hoses, and related tools.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments, including uneven terrain and confined spaces.
Work Environment and Hazards
- Exposure to flammable gases, hazardous liquids, electrical systems, pressurized equipment, and mechanical components associated with pump operations.
- Requires adherence to all safety protocols related to rotating equipment, electrical hazards, and liquid handling systems.
- Regular operation of motor vehicles and off‑road utility vehicles on landfill terrain.
- Willingness to respond to call‑outs, unscheduled overtime, and occasional travel to support pump and wellfield operations at other sites.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
