Senior Electrical Reliability & Power Systems Engineer
**Must be able to work as a 1099 Contractor**
Location: Monroe, NC (Onsite)
Compensation: $75–$125/hr (Flexible Based on Experience)
Schedule: Full-Time | Some Off-Hours / Shutdown Support Required
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Reliability & Power Systems Engineer to lead critical electrical infrastructure, power reliability, and energy optimization initiatives within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
This role will serve as a key technical leader responsible for improving facility electrical reliability, supporting infrastructure modernization projects, and helping drive operational continuity across active production environments where uptime and safety are critical.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience with industrial power systems, medium-voltage distribution, troubleshooting, commissioning, and electrical reliability within manufacturing, metals, mining, utilities, chemical processing, or other high-demand industrial operations.
This is a highly visible role with direct impact on plant reliability, operational performance, infrastructure modernization, and long-term facility strategy.
Primary ResponsibilitiesElectrical Reliability & Infrastructure
- Support and improve facility electrical reliability across active manufacturing operations
- Maintain and support:
- Medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- MCCs
- Protective relays
- Metering systems
- Industrial utility infrastructure
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis related to:
- Power quality issues
- Electrical failures
- System reliability concerns
- Consumption abnormalities
Power Systems & Energy Management
- Analyze facility and equipment power consumption to improve operational efficiency and system reliability
- Support initiatives involving:
- Peak demand management
- Load balancing
- Energy optimization
- Power monitoring systems
- Assist with:
- Load studies
- Power quality analysis
- Arc flash studies
- Coordination studies
Projects & Modernization
- Support electrical infrastructure upgrades, modernization initiatives, and capital improvement projects
- Review and validate electrical infrastructure integration for equipment installations and facility expansions
- Coordinate with contractors, maintenance, operations, and engineering teams during:
- Shutdowns
- Commissioning activities
- Planned outages
- Infrastructure upgrades
- Verify electrical installations and systems are installed and commissioned correctly
Leadership & Technical Support
- Provide technical guidance and leadership during active operations and critical infrastructure work
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for electrical systems
- Assist operations and maintenance teams with troubleshooting and technical problem solving
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, and operational standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred
- 8+ years of experience supporting industrial electrical power systems
- Strong experience with:
- Industrial power distribution systems
- Medium-voltage infrastructure
- Electrical reliability
- Power monitoring systems
- Troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Experience supporting industrial or high-demand operational environments such as:
- Manufacturing
- Metals processing
- Mining
- Utilities
- Chemical processing
- Heavy industrial operations
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Ability to operate effectively within active production environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Experience with:
- ETAP
- SKM
- SCADA or power monitoring platforms
- Arc Flash / NFPA 70E
- Reliability engineering
- Plant shutdowns and commissioning activities
- Experience coordinating contractors and vendors during active operations
