The IT Business Analyst position is responsible for analyzing existing systems and business processes, identifying process and system improvement strategies, developing business cases for process and technology improvements and assisting with project management activities to deliver approved system/service enhancements. The IT Business Analyst represents the needs of various business units across the University and works collaboratively within the ITS team to ensure appropriate infrastructure, functionality, and support measures are implemented to deliver efficient and effective business solutions that meet the functional needs of our customers on time and within defined budget parameters.
Responsibilities of the IT Business Analyst:
Consultancy ● Lead project teams and institutional leadership teams using BABOK methodologies, processes, and techniques for problem analysis, solution identification, implementation, and delivery. ● Lead the project teams, and institutional leadership teams using PMBOK methodologies, processes, and techniques for managing individual projects and solution delivery. ● Understand and follow Six Sigma methodologies for business process improvement using the five-phase improvement cycle – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. ● Understand university portfolio management processes and lead others through the process. ● Serve as primary customer contact for understanding core business operations and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Information Processing & Decision Making
● Prioritize allocation of time and resources in accordance with defined university and
departmental priorities.
● Actively look to maximize existing university investments and leverage existing systems to solve identified business problems.
● Conduct needs assessments to identify business requirements.
● Actively look to eliminate repetitive manual processes.
● Identify potential impacts of new systems/processes or changes to existing systems/processes and guide implementation to ensure operational reliability.
● Identify functional needs of appropriate stakeholders and sponsors
● Coordinate with other ITS staff, functional users, and appropriate vendors to account for
security (physical and logical), sustainability, disaster recovery, and business continuity
measures in all solutions.
Communication
● Interpret meaning and importance of information. Determine appropriate need and method for keeping team members, customers/stakeholders, and management informed.
● Utilize plain language in all verbal and written communication.
● Develop clear functional requirements documents for modifications or enhancements to ITS managed systems and processes.
● Keep project, communication, testing, and training documentation updated using defined standards within 3 business days of approved changes.
● Document systems and processes in accordance with defined standards.
● Develop and utilize responsibility assignment matrices and project schedules to communicate project objectives and status to all appropriate stakeholders.
● Be engaged and participate in individual discussions, project and team meetings.
Planning and Organizing
● Develop “As-Is” and “To-Be” system/process workflow diagrams.
● Develop project plans and associated project documents to effectively manage projects.
● Communicate project purpose, goals, objectives, and project plans to all team members at
project kick-off meetings and within one (1) business day of any approved changes.
● Establish appropriate project timelines and coordinate project resources to deliver business solutions within approved time and budget parameters.
● Independently manage assigned projects and project components.
● Plan and account for account provisioning, user access, system integration, and data
security/integrity as appropriate in all projects.
● Demonstrate attention to detail in all phases of the business analysis and project management lifecycles.
Problem Solving
● Establish working partnerships with business units and ITS teams to coordinate problem
resolution for operational issues, and analyze root cause issues to address underlying
system/process problems.
● Identify common issues and develop appropriate documentation, training, and/or tip sheets for (or in conjunction with) functional users.
● Develop current and desired workflow diagrams to visually represent challenges, risks, and opportunities for process improvements.
● Analyze business processes and systems to provide leadership in maximizing unit resources and university ROI.
● Other special projects, duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements of the IT Business Analyst:
Experience ● 2+ years of progressive experience as a Business Analyst. ● Project Management experience is highly desirable. ● CRM implementation/optimization experience is highly desirable. ● Salesforce implementation/optimization experience is highly desirable.
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience. ● Business Analyst certification is a plus. ● Business process improvement credentials are a plus. ● Project Management certification is a plus.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
● Ability to work in a virtual environment using software technology including but not limited to virtual meeting tools, such as Zoom, Instant Messaging, Salesforce, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
● The ability to efficiently operate a computer and its peripheral equipment (keyboard, mouse, etc.).
● Ability to sit or stand for six to eight hours.
● Ability to work at least 40 hours a week.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
